My BII Project

yeah same truck... Right before it died out this time it was running 100% I got the timing fixed when we did the 8.8 swap. The distributor was put in at a shop before this all happend... One thing I have noticed is that when I give it gas and rev it up than let go of the gas it drops in RPM's much faster than before, and it drops down a little too low, than bounces back up to around a grand. It does sputter when I drive it down the street, but seems to work a little bit better at high rpm's... I do have a newish air filter, but just to make sure I did take the filter out for a few min to see if it worked better, but no change..

YEAH! Its running at 100% now! I got some new plugs today, best ones I could find, $10 each. Pulled the old ones out, that were only in the truck for 2 days, and they were fouled. Had to of been when the other computer was in and it was blowing black smoke. But it runs great now, went for a burn around the city. Now just need to get the dash back together! lol. Thanks agian for all the help and info. This weekend is vavle cover gaskets, and Im hoping to get the D35 swaped in so I can do some wheeling soon. Just got to figure out what size wrenches and sockets I need to go buy, dont have any that are over 19MM.

21 and 23mm come in handy :)
Good job! finally hua....

quick question here. I have two amps now, and I want to know if I can just jump the power from one amp to the other, rather than running two power wires. I have an amp for each sub.

you need a power distribution block for the power and the ground wires.
This will split the larger wire into two or more smaller wires

The size of the wire, the fuse amperage, the length of the wires, etc all play a role in getting the proper amount of power to your amp

Okay, I moved so I havent had much time to work on the BII, but I have moved to a house with a huge car port, so its dry, warm, flat and has lots of lights at night. So now I can work any time rain or shine, cold or warm.
I got my D35 on now, and my steering arms are connected to the pitman arm, but when I put my wheels straight the drivers side tire is straight and the other tire is pointed in... So I have a little problem here. Do I turn the tie rod where it meets the steering arm, untill the tire goes straight or is there a different way to do this?

Some other work I have done is I have taken all the carpet out, I am going to paint it with bedliner, it was getting rotten from sitting in the rain for the past few months. And now that I have a dry place to work and park the BII I am going to chop the top off!!!!!! haha

You need an alignment, your toe is off and so is your camber most likely

To get it close enough to drive to the alignment place you can adjust the tie rods yourself, use a tape measure at the front and rear of the tires and adjust the toe until its about even

Okay started my chop top project, this is what I have gotten done so far

first took the seats out and carpet, than all the plastic in the back of the truck. I disconected the rear window defrost and my rear window wiper and fluid pump, un hooked the rear cab light.

Than came the head liner and rear windows, This was a little ruff. I had no problem getting the first window out, it took some time but it came out all in one piece, than the other one blew out real easy, but I will not need these windows so if you want to clean the mess its a faster way of getting the window out, also if you cannot find some one to take the whole window, than you can put it in a bag and take it to the dump. I had made holes in the plastic to get to the bolts in the summer so it was easy to get at them. But if you dont have holes there than you will need to take all the side plastic off to get to them easy. IF you want to keep your headliner than make sure everything is taken off that is holding it down and pull it straight out from the rear of the truck, and do not bend it at all!!!

any ideas on what I can use the old rear window washer pump for?

 :thumbdwn:

I want a snorkel but I really dont want to cut the glass fenders.... for many reasons

Does the length of the pipe / house effect how the truck works?

any ideas on what I can use the old rear window washer pump for?

I had a friend who modded a washer fluid pump and fill cannister in his engine compartment. He ran a tube through the firewall with a spout at the end of it. He used it to fill up his gin and tonics at the push of a button. By law he is no longer allowed to drive.
Man my friends are drunks!

hahahahaha yeah thats what I was thinking. It would be cool if you could actually keep the "water" or what ever you put in it cold. I seen on a show, Trailer park boys, they made the front washer fluid pump full of coke and the rear one Rum, so he had his rum and coke ;)

It would be good for wheelin on a hot day, if you had cold water from the dash of your truck.... Would need a new cannister before id drink from it tho

Okay well its off!!! haha it was fun, VERY fun, haha and well 100% easer than I ever thought it would be SO FAR. I used a sawzall, I got two new blades. It cut very easy, just make sure you get a blade that is long enuff to go all the way though. First I cut the rear pillars off, than closed the hatch to brace the top from moving around when I cut. Than I got inside the truck and cut along my line from the inside. You should have somthing for your ears here, if you are inside it is VERY loud! When I got the top off I got a friend to open the rear hatch while I was inside the truck and I lift up from inside while he lifted the hatch. Its not that heavy but that hatch is about 90% of the weight. well here it is.

Lookin good. I had a hard time getting all those bolts out of those back seat brackets. Had to cut some bolt heads off on some. How about those rear back supports? The area above the rear roof suports that you cut off. Going to weld plates over them? And the same thing where the roof was cut off at the top of the cab?

I am thinking about that now, is there any other way to do it rather than weld plates over them? I want to try and keep everything smooth, and I am going to try and find some rubber to put over the flange where the windows were. I am thinking I can use the flange for mounting a soft top or somthing along those lines. I want to get a roll bar put in than take it to a boat shop and get them to make me a soft top.
Yeah those back seats are a pain so far. Its just the back part. I will cut them out.

Here are these pics of the snorkel, keep in mind I just started it tonight. Tape is just to hold it up and I will have it air tight etc....

Give me any pointers here, like if this is a bad idea or what ever, or if it looks like its going to work good :kewl:
I do not drive this truck as a DD
Just when I go wheelin

Might want to get larger tubing.

EDIT: oh and that is the finest ghetto fab i have ever seen...clear duct tape haha.
Good works so far, i just wish i had a truck to wheel with you.

hahaha and to make it even better its clear fiber tape  some strong stuff!

How was the trip home? Should have brought the truck back :thumbdwn:

oh and the tube is 2.1/2 inches.... Not sure if it needs to be any larger than that going though the stock air box

2.5" may be enough for a short run but it may in fact choke the power on a long run like this.

I like your idea, and the 2.9L doesnt need much air, I think it might work fine, you just have to test it out!

You didnt go buy a shop vac just to get the hose did you? I see a new shop vac, I see the box, hahaha maybe you kept buying them and returning them without the hose? hahaha

I love and hate to see BII's lose their top all at the same time, I still have mixed feelings about this and I am not sure if I will chop mine some day or not...still

Looks good! Just make sure you finish it, too many people leave them un finished.

hahahahahaha nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I did not go buy one than take it back, that box is from just the hose! lol. I did get a new vac a bit ago, sure is handy. I dont know what I would have done if I did not have it when I poped that window! I hope that the hose is large enuff, what would you recomend for size? 3" or 4"?
I will finish the chop! No way I can leave it like that, its too... how do you say... ruff. And I know what you are saying about the love and hate the chop, in a way it made me feel like I just killed another BII! lol If this was still my DD I would not have choped the top. You know of any other way to fill the holes or use them to my advantage, other than to weld it?

I think it looks real good with the front glass fenders. So whats the deal with being able to pull the rear fenders out? What do you do, and will it be "easer" to do it now that I have choped the top?
