My latest project: 1970 Dodge Dart 512 C.I. Bracket Racer

Some of you may remember that I used to have a 1972 Dodge Dart which I drag raced.

Well, I got the itch to get back into racing:burnout: Our new house is only 3 miles from the Speedworld racetrack and I can faintly hear them running the cars from our house. It was just too much for me to bare;) I haven't been doing much in the way of local fourwheeling, so I thought drag racing would give me something to do on the weekends.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1970 Dodge Dart off of E-bay. The car was located in New Jersey, a mere 2500 miles from home:eek: I decided this was the right car for me mainly because I really needed to get out of the house on my own for a couple weeks and this was just the excuse I needed;)

The car is going to be stripped and repainted. It will get new quarter panels, at least one rocker, one floorpan, new door hinges, fiberglass hood, bumpers, and most likely trunk lid as well.

The new color will most likely be orange, but it just may end up being red, like my old one. Plans for it include a 650HP, 512 CI, big block Mopar and an automatic transmission. I'm just not sure if it will be from BB or SB or whether or not it will even be a Mopar:eek: I plan on ditching the torsion bar front suspension for an aftermarket K member which gives you rack and pinion steering, upgraded brakes, and the choice of coilover shocks or airbag suspension.

The rear end in the car right now is a trussed Mopar 8 3/4", with a three link suspension and coilovers.

Frustrating day:( Hours and hours spent fitting one of the headers. A few things changed since the mock up. #1 Wilwood master cylinder #2 Flaming River steering column and #3 the thickness of a lousy header gasket.

For all that I had to pull one of the headers out probably a dozen times to get the clearances I needed. I finally got it... I wasn't about to let it beat me!

Uh I turn around and its almost done. Way to go Rick.

Can you see the finish line?

Gonna have a party when it drives out of the garage? I know I would. :)

Yep, I can see a finish line. My to do list is growing shorter and shorter, and the room where I have stored all the parts is getting emptier and emptier:D

No party, but I'll have a hell of a grin on my face:D Char will be happy too... She'll finally get some of the home improvements she's been so patiently waiting for. She's really been great throughout this project.

No progress today, but here are some stills of where it's at now.

It's so close I can taste it!! All the electronics work. I even bumped the engine with the starter to make sure it was engaging properly.

I'll be ordering the driveshaft tomorrow. Once that's back in my hands it's time to make some noise!!:burnout:

Just ordered my driveshaft from Strange Engineering. Should be here in a week and a half or so... Can't wait!!

Lookin' great Rick.

Heckuva long way from the road trip a couple of years ago...

I found a local company that does mobile vinyl top installations. I wasn't looking forward to taking it to a shop, so this is good. He has lots of references and photos of completed projects. Looks like he does nice work.

I still need to find a good mobile window installer for a new windshield and to have the rear glass put back in.

My Lexan quarter windows arrived. Now I've just got to figure out how I want to mount them.

The list is nearly gone... It sure has come a long way since my East Coast trip 3 years ago:eek:

Rick, how about same pic as above, but with the hood on? Or is there some reason you can't do that yet?

Looks gorgeous, obviously. I think we all ran out of new adjectives many pages ago!

Here ya go Bill. I just went out and put the hood on for ya';)
