My trip to the drag strip

Well I guess that I made the right decision to drop down to 3.73. I am glad to hear that it doesn't change increase the 1/4 time too much. The low rpm on the highway are enough incentive to run the 3.73. The noise was driving me insane.

I plotted the rpm versus mph curve for each gear when I swapped the 3.27's with 3.73's. In the car there was a big mph band where the car used to be in 1st gear, but now is in 2nd gear. It's those short spans where the bigger ratios lose out compared to the taller ring/pinion, the other combo is better at certain points.

From 37 to 48mph my LSC used to be in first gear(3.27 x 2.48). Now it's in 2nd gear for that time(3.73 x 1.46). The old ring/pinion is better for three mph bands, it offsets the better launch. All vehicles are different, but for most the change will be very minor, just like roller rockers on a stock engine.

Just got back from the last night of the season, I ran a 15.71 @85mph which is a new best for me. I was fully loaded too, so if I took all the interior out again I'd probably be in the 40's I'll post up more details tomorrow, and hopefully some pics my dad took if they turn out.

There was also a 3rd gen out there he ran a 15.99@84mph, I don't know anything about his ex though. I didn't see him until he was just about to make a pass, and then I went looking for it, but I never could find the driver. I did leave a note though so hopefully he'll join us on the forum with some more details.

Staging for the 2nd pass which was a 15.81, I was the first car down the track after they cleaned it and turned it into a glue trap I lost 4 hundreths over the 1st run by 60ft.

Last night was a blast and it was my first time down the track. I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Limited with a 4.6L V8 4x4. Only mods are a 70 series flowmaster muffler. My best run was a 15.953 @ 84.6mph. When I get off work I will post the timeslips in the 3rd Gen Forum. I plan on coming back with some more mods in the spring. I will make sure that we meet up next time and get a run in together! You have a good looking Mountaineer man! Later.

thanks yours looked pretty good too from what I saw of it. If all you have now is an exhaust then I suspect by the time you get here in the spring you'll be leaving me in your dust

You said your brother raced at Humboldt yes? You ought to come down some time he's racing. I just now put this together, sorry.

Yeah he does, but the season just ended! I am going to try to make it to his races next year and when he goes to Humbolt, I will let you know and hopefully we can meet up. I put the timeslips up in the 3rd Gen modified forum. Techieman33, think we could maybe get a run in someday in "mexico" before I do some mods? Want to see if they make a difference.
