Well the Ex is going in the shop monday (friday maybe), so Im hoping its a simple quick repair. My 4.0 emblem snapped in two today, so now my grille is "naked"

Are you going to replace it with another 4.0 or try something different? A car bra will help conceal that nude grill.:D:thumbsup:

No, I think I'm going to leave it alone. It was my fault. My coat zipper snagged on a spot and broke the 4 off. If I do anything I want to get a ford logo or try something else. I really want to get an explorer badge and have in outlined in Pueblo Gold (pin stripe) and the rest of it painted black; match the grille nicely.

Sounds like you are having the same oil leak as I did a couple months ago:

I thought my rear main seal was leaking as well on my '02 SOHC engine. It wasn't until i puller the passenger side header that I discovered the oil filter manifold on the side of the engine block was leaking oil, and it was wrapping around the engine and back down making me believe that the rear main seal was leaking. I couldn't see the oil filter manifold leaking at all until i took the header off.

Check out post number 39 in my registry too read more about my solution: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2619109&postcount=39

Thanks mike, I actually discovered this possible issue through that. I googled "05 Explorer Rear Main Seal Leak" and I found your thread.
I'll take a couple of quick pictures really quick

Glad my threads have been helpful. There was a TSB warning about possible porosity in the aluminum oil filter manifold. Don't know how the heck that develops. :dunno: When I took off my oil filter manifold I inspected very cautiously for any porosity inside the oil galley as well as the exterior as well. I did not find any form of porosity and I doubt you will either. But I suggest you check regardless.

THe manifold is just sealed to the bock by an o-ring. Mine had just shrunk and become brittle.

Here are a few pics. The engine has completely cooled at this point in time.
There is nothing that leaks onto the ground. It just dampens up. My brothers bronco when the rear main seal blew it leaked oil constantly and looked way worse than this. This only leaks when the engine is on or has been on.

The oil filter housing you can see towards the back it has (what I think is [i'm pretty sure]) oil on it. Yes there is an awful lot of mud and dirt all over this truck. The stuff on the filter housing is dirt.

I say its the filter housing for sure. The filter side of mine was simi covered in oil too.

Thanks for your help and thoughts on this. Now I just have to convince the dealership its only an o-ring needing to be replaced. I know they will try to put on a whole new unit; I dont want to waste money on unneeded parts.

Well I ordered the O-ring, and will tell them to do the fix only using that part (on the filter housing). The Ex is going in on monday and will let you all know how that goes.

And I beat a few ricers off the stop light tonight ;)

Awesome mate. Hahaha bloody ricer's Hahaha.:D

Nice job Nate!

I couldn't help myself today...I raced a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7L V8
And.....

I WON!!!!!!!!!! :D
Dodge Trucks are slow.

Watch out for the copper's you bloody hoon:biggthump

I havent gotten caught....yet. I dont usually like to race off lights, but on occasions I do. I have a friend who loves his dodge trucks and bashes ford, so I figured I should show him what a Ford can do.

Yeah, Nate- but look at that oil pressure gauge:

Looks like she's losing oil pressure. Ford programmed the oil pump to slow way the phock down at 70k, so look out, she's about to blow up.

Just kidding! :D

Glad ford has won the Ogden drag's, now if only we can get them at The Daytona 500:thumbsup:

Here was my drive today

Very snowy and not fun. I chose to drive the mountain pass instead of taking the canyon. There were a few small avalanches that slid onto the road; Just kept on driving.
