hello to all, if you keep up a little in the past on the forum you would come across a thread on painted cladding on the 3rd gen. explorers. I responded with myself getting mine painted for 1500 dollars. Well I am in Japan and i go home on leave from the Marine Corps next week on the 6th for one month to bag my truck. Apparently my mom says the painted cladding on the bottom half of my truck is flaking off. What would cause this? Did the body man not do it right? Or is it just hard as crap to get paint to stick to the textured surface? I am going to have to redo it. I will post pics of the truck before and after. I think you are supposed to clean it thoroughly and then use a primer/filler on it and sand it a few times. But I think the guy did not use the primer/filler because it is still textured. At any rate, any input is greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like a paintline issue. bodymen have nothing to do with the paint on a car. All they do is fix the damage and then give it to the paintline who sand and prep the car for paint. If you paid them to get rid of the texture, they should have used an epoxy that they have to smear on then sand off to smooth everything out. Primer/filler would not have worked. Sounds like either they didn't use a plastic adhesive spray before they painted it, or whoever sanded it, did a horrible job. I'd go back and complain and they will fix it. How long ago did you paint it?

it was painted about 10 months ago.

it was painted about 10 months ago. Good news though. I just called up the body shop and they said that they would redo it for free.

Sounds like it might have been a bad prep job. With any paint job the prep work is most important. Good to hear they will fix it for you.

body shops arent dens of evil :)

LOL, funny.

I agree with someone said about a bad prep job. I painted mine and they flake off all the time.

You at OKI? It was cool when I was there.... LOL

SEMPER FI!

CPL. LALONDE

Yup, I am in Oki. Camp Courtney....I was at Hansen for a year. Been Lance now for 1 year and 8 months...Feels like I am never going to pick up.

If I remember it's a 2 yr min for lance then CPL is automatic. Unfortunately that is the last auto rank up you'll get.

I was at Foster when I wasn't on ship.

Negative....it is not an automatic pick up. You can get Cpl. after being Lance for about 6 months. It depends on the cutting score in your MOS. The last guarantee pick up rank is Lance.
