Official ET/MPH List

Yes yes, I want to drive it a whole lot more than my V6. The V8 is much more enjoyable to drive in town with far better torque. I'm going to look hard at the space available for turbo piping.

Ton's.;) You should have an enjoyable project ahead of you.

Rob, there are only a few other Explorers with the pipes running from the back. The space along the frame and headers is really tight to run two more pipes through there. I want the air filter under the hood for sure, and the pressurized pipe needs to stay away from the tire. I also wonder about IAT's with no intercooler, for boosting 9psi or 15 psi.

I have worked under some truly tight vehicles. The Gen2 Explorer is not one of them. You should have no problem routing your pipes under there and still retaining plenty of ground clearance.

I'm hoping so, the space for a supercharger seems more unlikely, thus I'll look for the easiest solution.

I finally went to the dragway!

My best:
R/T .089
60ft 2.396
1/8 10.680
MPH 66.14
1/4 16.627
MPH 82.34

Details: 85-90 degrees, 00 Mountaineer AWD, Mac Intake, Flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust.

Those are really good times:thumbsup:, I was running 16.9's with those mods

new best time i ran a 10.843 today. a little less huymid and hot that day. and to answer previous question about stock no it has GT-40 series heads and intake manifold, a mac intake and a mac exhaust.

That's an excellent 60 foot time!

Thanks! I have a set of 17" Mustang rims I refinished im dying to put on as soon as I can afford tires.

Now what size?
255/60/17 little wider(looks nice and handle better) stock height.
235/60/17 same width(lighter and quicker) little shorter, less MPG.

Also, if I remove my rear cats, how much louder and faster would it get?

235 is not as wide as 255--it is about 3/4" narrower

The first number in a metric tire size, is the section width, in millimeters-
divide this number by 25.4 to get inches-then subtract about 1/2" and you will have a good approximate tread width.

275 60-17 will fit-Ask Techieman33,
he has my old ones on his truck now. I had them on with the torsion bars flipped and 30.5" of front fender height. They had an honest 10" footprint, and are the stock 29" diameter.
Now, there are a few things that must be done to tuck them, but those steps take about 1 hour total, if that.

Hope this helps.

Sorry should have been more clear. Same width as stock.

I work at a dealership and I have people fight with me all the time about tire sizes, when they think the 60 is width. I have to explain the first is tread width in millimeters, second is the aspect ratio of the tread width(% of width), last obviously rim size.

I dont want the tires too wide, to keep the rotational mass down, but better handling than the skinny 235's. I think im gonna go with 255/60/17.

I use http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp to figure tire sizes

The 255/60/17 is an excellent size, I had those first with Cobra wheels(8" wide). Those didn't hurt go/stop performance, being 58 pounds per wheel/tire. Stock was 53 pounds, try to keep it under 60 pounds if possible.

new best time for BIG RED. on the hometown 1/8 i hit 10.693 with a 0.048 reaction time ^_^ . infact all my reaction times r getting better. they were almost all in the 0.1s and 0.2s and even had 2 below 0.100. [only thing u gotta remember im usually running in 85-90 degrees with 95% humidity so having it around 76 degrees helped ;) ]

Sorry for the absence everyone. I'll get your info up.

I ran a base line run in Vegas this last weekend with my AWD 98' 5.0L XLT. Don't know race weight but it was a lot. Had two people in the truck 3/4 tank of fuel my laptop and movies a cooler full of drinks and the heaviest of all my big sub the sub and box weight over 120LBS. So all thinks considering with a bone stock truck sitting on 31's it ran well.

Time

R/T .... .074
60' .... 2.498
330' .... 7.398
1/8 .... 11.554
MPH .... 59.64
1000 .... 15.086
1/4 .... 18.073
MPH .... 75.36

:) Many things to come this spring!
