Uh oh, another 4WD truck is born. Mine too, but different.

I still wanna race ya Eric! ;) So don't count the Ex out yet!

Not as fast as I want, but better than expected!

Unfortunately, my truck is currently disassembled. (No time right now, busy w/ school)

I've been to the track twice. First, I ran it as stock as possible. Only thing on it was the K&N FIPK, which I wasn't going to take off for a baseline. It ran 16.62. This was backed up by several runs. Given the "seat of the pants" gain I felt when I originally installed the cold air kit, I would guess that "bone" stock, it probably would run 17's

I went back a few weeks later. This time I started tweaking a couple of things in the custom tune from Henson (SCT Xcal3). I also removed my spare tire, and the rear cargo mat. Also, I was runnning almost on an empty tank.

My best run is below. I made 6-7 more within a tenth or so, so it's legit.
Island Dragway -Great Meadows, NJ - May 2008 - approx 9pm
ambient temps approx 60-62 deg.
R/T - .288
60' - 2.283
330 - 6.651
1/8 - 10.211 :D I believe that puts me 2nd on the list ????
MPH - 69.00
1000 - 13.280
1/4 - 15.876
MPH - 86.82

The only mods at that time were the FIPK (cold air kit) and the custom tuning. I also lowered the front all the way (no torsion bar bolts)- still need to level out the rear a bit more.
Once it's put back together it will have a different exhaust, bigger throttle body, underdrive pulley, electric fan, and maybe a bigger MAFS. I'd love to see high 14's when that's done. We'll see..........

its all good. Ill run better without 20 mph winds to run against lol. Ill have you beat B4 the year is over ^_^

Your in 3rd place at best, awdrocks hasn't updated the list in a while, I've got you beat too:D

1/8 10.016

1000' 13.093

....hangs head in shame.......

ooops. :notworthy

Well, still. These #'s were w/o a few mods that I listed. I'm sure those will all help quite a bit. I think the exhaust will make a big difference, especially. The #'s I listed were w/ a complete bone stock, from the factory exhaust. When it's puts back together it will have a Gibson cat-back, no cats, and the pipes from the manifold to where the cats used to be will be replaced w/ mandrel bent 2-1/4" pipe, instead of the twisted crazy straws the factory used. (At one point, the factory pipe is choked down to about 1-1/2"

Of course, if all else fails, I can just whine that it's not fair..... You both have V8's, and cheesypoofs is 2wd :D

The v8's don't make any more power than the v6's, which are actually faster in stock form than the v8's, the AWD sucks up a lot of horsepower. And I wouldn't count on gaining much if anything from your exhaust, it's pretty good stock.

I agree with you for the most part. I know the published stock #'s show the V6-sohc slighty faster than the 5.0L's. However, the 5.0L's make a little more torque than the sohc's. This helps them off the line. In fact, if you compare "timeslips" that people have posted, a pattern will emerge. Assuming the vehicles are relatively equal, in terms of mods,etc..; a V8 will beat a V6 off the line, everytime. The V6's then make up ground on the top end, as they will rev a little quicker.

I also think that the 5.0L's respond better to mild mods,as well as having a wider variety and cheaper assortment of performance options vs. the SOHC-V6.

And yes, I agree on the AWD eating power. I'm curious how much loss their really is through the drivetrain. The local guy w/ a chassis dyno said his dyno could do a coastdown test to determine drivetrain power loss. But...... it requires reconfiguring the whole dyno, so I would have to rent it for the whole day. Maybe when I have a couple other vehicles to test... I really wanted to know this on my '80 Chevy K20 p/u 4x4 -full-float 14bolt, SM465, and the gear drive t-case (NP203? or is it 205-I forget). I've heard guesses between 10%-30%. It would probably be good to know on the dirt stock car too.

As for my stock exhaust, yeah it's not too bad for stock. It does, however have a few choke points, as mentioned. They had some good ideas, but it's obvious there were comprises made for ease of assmbly, production costs, and emmisions. As I mentioned, the factory downpipes are seriously choked at the bends (crush bent). The cats are also a restriction. Finally, the 2 pipes into the muffler are fine, but bringing them both into the muffler, sharing one "too small" passage through, and then out an even smaller single tailpipe is not the best way to make power. I guess I won't know until it's done and the track is open, but I'm still expecting not only better MPG, but at least 2 tenths off the 1/4 et, just from the exhaust.

From what I've heard, the underdrive crank pulley is also a proven winner. But, again, it's all guessing/bench racing until the spring..........

Took mine to the track today. I will see 12s with this thing soon. The RT is bad because I was trying to build boost. This pass was with about 15psi.
