John and I have two sites reserved at Canyonlands "near" each other. If you mention our names they could probably get you "near" one of us.
Gerald, I guess you can officially list us both under Canyonlands Campground now on the main post . . . . .and sync up our arrival and departure times.

Finished up the Rubicon 4:1 transfer case swap th other night, now I'm waiting for the weekend to have Jefe fab me some real rock sliders, and wait patiently for my new rear bumper/tire carrier. . . . . . my bet is that it arrives the morning of our departure - or the day after!

I also have a camp site reserved at the canyonlands campground under Michael Helbert. Last time I went to Arizona we hung out a little with a few (jefe and marty), I've never been there so me and my wife will probably just follow along someone who knows the town. See ya there.

Tom, 8:15am isn't that bad :D besides, we don't get out until about 9:00am anyway so you could grab an extra half hour sleep and still show up on time :D

I installed all four ball joints, a new fuel tank, new radiator, still have to fix my tcase switch this weekend... I'm pumped, wish I was there right now :bounce:

..... I just realized..... only fifteen days of bachelorhood left

Two more days and I am done with my semester work and it is outside to build a truck... I bought new ball joints, wheel bearings, rotors, brake pads, and shackles yesterday. I have sliders in the works, a 3" body lift on order, and a set of flexy springs, f 250 shock mounts, and Ranch RS 9000 shocks laying on the bench. Still have to install it all, weld up some bumpers, and install a CB and fire extinguisher, plus find a way to tote everything I need for 3000 miles... Lots to do and little time left. :)

Hey Guy, have you worked out our marriage ceremony yet? Still haven't heard from you on that little detail:D

Hey you guys... haven't you read any of my posts? I tend to get long-winded at times. I figure with all the Christian club members pushing me to preach long and hard, and all the pagan club members pushing me off a cliff, I might go, oh, around an hour and a half or so... or at least until I hit bottom 3500 feet below, whichever comes first.

Just kidding... And, I am working out the final details of the marriage ceremony. It is sounding good to me, but I am going to run it by Gearld and Ashli before we get there. I am trying to be pertinent to all parties involved!

My greatest hope in this ceremony is that we both honor God and the marriage of two really special people.

What a unique opportunity Gearld and Ashli have given me to preside over this ceremony. I am ready!

:bounce:

THEN We can wheel!!!! :burnout:

(BTW, Gearld and Ashli, I had a "warm up wedding this past week" just for practice! -- well not exactly. A couple at the seminary were married and asked me to preside, and I did test out a couple things that I want to say in your wedding and they went over very well -- and I preached that wedding in front of a seminary crowd with many doctors of the faith in attendence. Talk about "peer review"!)

And -- about being tired in the morning... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

(and that from a man happily married for 27 years!)

<mental note>

bring a pillow and a sleeping bag on the trail on friday.. got the feeling this wedding is going to be long.

</mental note>

hahahaha long winded on the forums = long winded on the trail?

We should broadcast the ceremony over the CB channels while we are up there for all of Utah to hear :P

Yeah, then if it goes on and on, we can go wheel and still listen! :D ;)

Looks like we are going to miss a great Friday trip to "Top of the World", sure wished we could get off work a day earlier to join you guys.

Come on... You guys (and girls) are going to have to trust me (and not like they mean it in California). I'm a trained professional. Don't try this on your own. Don't try this at home... :)

A couple points for consideration...

First, the elevation. I will likely be lucky to have the wind to go more than a couple minutes

Second, the heat/outdoor setting - i,e, no place to sit etc. I don't want to unduly burden anyone.

Third, the mood of the day - we are there as a 4x4 club and we have been blessed beyond measure to have someone like Gearld and Ashli that want to share their most special day with US of all people. We want to honor them with the best ceremony that money can't buy! But we also want to do this ceremony in such a way as to combine the two worlds we are in on that day.

Fourth, some (perhaps many) of us are devout in our faith, and we desire greatly to honor God in all we do - whether that is almost making it to heaven early by flopping a truck or if it is having a God-honoring Christian marriage.

And, fifth, I don't know about you guys, but I am there to have a good time... It's my vacation too!

I promise it will be one of (if not THE) best weddings you have ever been involved with. Weddings are my passion and I custom write each ceremony for the individuals and the circumstances.

Blessings... The Preacher.

On another front, I actaully started work on the Ex tonight. I still have some class work and computer work to finish, but I had to get outside. It's been a LONG semester... I pulled at least one all-nigher a week since January!

So, I began on the rear suspension. I am doing a modification that I did on my Ranger that allows for about 2" of lift and a LOT of flex. I also plated the lower spring plates so they don't get hung up on rocks. I have a nice set of RS9000 shocks to install as well that ought to allow for full wheel travel. I have a set of shackles, but I am unsure at this point if they are going on or not. I have to see where the front end sits after I do my mods there. If this truck is half as flexy as my Ranger when I get finished, I will do great on the rocks.

BTW, what are you guys doiing on a 1st Gen Ex to lengthen the rear brake line? Any quick ideas? In front, I usualy run XJ (Cherokee) lines with relocated hard lines behind the spring towers. That allows for up to 18" of wheel travel with ease, and I get to use cheap factory rubber lines that last forever.

Gl, I`m sure the wedding will be perfect, Btw, are you talking about extending your emergency brake line or the hydraulic system? I extended my emergency brake with a pretty nifty method if I do say so myself, it`s in my mod thread of course.

A local board did a run to Moab recently, I don`t know if I want to go where they did!

moab run

Here is a pic of what I did with mine. The actual break line is a procomp extended brake line for an explorer.

ld50- Cool pics of upper helldo. I don't think you will have to worry about making that run ;) I don't think anyone here would try it but you never know :) My friend just bought sonny's old scorpion a few weeks ago. That thing is pretty cool. This one has the gas motor in it though :D

Thanks... I was mainly worried about the hydraulic line, but I think I have that figured out - with only a couple dollar investment. What I am going to do is to relocate the rubber line to the top of the spare tire hanger (I am chopping away most of that, as I will not be using it now), and then re-routing the harrd line to the center point, where I will re-attatch the lines together. That will give me plenty of lose for any travel I might get. I hadn't looked real closely at the e-brake cables, but I am only going up about 2" so they probably won't be a problem. If so, I can always make some extensions.

Well anyway, today I managed to get my leaf springs re-done. I removed the flat helper leaf and added an overload leaf (one of those cheap ones from Auto Zone). It sounds funny, but I began running that setup on my Ranger when I needed to haul some gravel, and it turned out that they work really well off-road. I can turn them inside out - they flex well, and they give about 2" of lift the way I installed them. Good part is that if they bend, I get new ones for under $35.00.

I also changed the shock mounts around just a bit and added some 5" over Ranch RS9000's. I might need to extend the top mounting point just a bit to get total down travel, but I will have to flex them out to see what happens first. If the shocke are the limiting factor, then I will make some changes as needed. I can fabricate my own stuff, and making extensions or relocators is no big deal.

I also boxed my spring plates with some 1/4" diamond plate (sort of made some mini-sliders) which will definately strengthen those plates and let them slip off a rock. I am still pretty uncomfortale with the spring under thing, but for now, I don't have the time or money to go big...

Monday, I install new lower ball joints, new wheel bearings, brake rotors, pads, and the XJ front brake lines. While I'm in there, I am also installing a set of XJ lift coils that will give me about 18" of front travel, along with some 8" longer Rancho RS9000's on F250 shock towers. I am making sway bar disconnects for the front, and am running without a rear bar right now. I may make disconnects for the rear, I am not sure yet. Have to see how it goes down the road. I am also putting on Warn lock out hubs (another great purcahse for cost!) and I am doing a Lock Rite in the front axke for the trip. That should let me do some pretty good trail running.

(I scored the Ranchos FREE - it's great to have a kid work at a 4x4 place! Some dude came in and wanted new ones because they had some surface rust on them. Prettyboy street stuff... His loss, my gain!)

Finally, I am having a set of 1.75" tubes custom bent to make rock sliders for the sides. I have a ton of 2x2 tubing and will use the round and sqare to make up something that will keep my doors intact. Oh, and there will be custom bumpers front and rear, plus a new grill of 1x1" tubing and expanded metal. (I purchased this EX for $500 with a wrecked front end, so I am just chopping off the old plastic and making it pure fabbed off-road style.)

It sure does feel good to get outside and working once again after being cooped up in the house for the past several months!
