I was looking around on the Ford Ranger forums and I noticed a lot of people have painted their interior and it looks really good. I'm thinking about doing this.

Has anyone do this? I'm thinking about either doing white or dark blue to cover up the black in my truck. I don't know, I just want to be different.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have pics, post them!

What do you mean? Are you talking about the plastic? Or the metal? I am not seeing what your talking about. I can't imagine painting some of that plastic. It would take years to get right. :)

For example..

Something like that..

Did you really have to post that picture. Now you made me want to do the same thing. I would suggest practicing on some stuff from a junk yard before the real thing but that does look really really really really cool

I want to paint the part of the door like in the pic above, and a variety of other things in the interior that are black.

I'm guess you just have to fine sand it, prime it, then paint it. My problem is deciding on the color. ;)

Several months ago, I made up my mind to do this to my '97. I am waiting for the weather to cools down though. I was planning on doing the black trim around my gauges, radio and high-series console. I would like to throw in some white face gauges while I have the dash apart. I am going to paint the blac the same color as my exterior color (purple). Ever since I saw my first purple Prowler several years ago with the dash painted similarly, I have wanted the same look.

Forget paint, where did that shifter come from??? I'd buy one of them.

thats a sweet idea, ill have to try it out sometime.

is that a ranger?

The shifter looks like an old Hurst T-Handle. You can get them from www.summitracing.com for $20.75 . The part # is HUU-1530019

My girlfriend and I did this to the dashboard and door handle trim on her RAV4. It came out really nice.

What we did was we washed the peices to be painted with dishwashing liquid to remove all the old Formula 2001 protectant and fingerprints. You should not need to sand or prime.
We got a can of spraypaint to match the body color from www.paintscratch.com. I recommend this place and thier paint: nice people, fast service, accurate color match. You also have the option of adding a special flex agent that allows the paint to flex, (like on plastic bumpers), and not crack. We opted for this since the plastic pieces may swell and shrink with heat and cold and it doesn't cost any more anyway. With the plastic clean, we sprayed 4 or 5 LIGHT coats of paint on to the parts. After the paint dried fully, we sprayed the parts with 3 or 4 coats of clear polyurethane sealer to protect the paint from sctrathes and offer a gloss finish. It came out nice!! You can see some pictures of the work here:

Hope this helps some.

i dont think that will come out the way you want it to.
when you see a smooth painted interior, it is most likely fiberglass. just make some fiberglass panels, do a lot of sanding, then they're ready for paint. you can even clearcoat them. i've made fiberglass interiors for a couple people. i even had a cool red fiberglass interior in my explorer until fathers day. i took it out cause i want to do something else now. it's not hard to do. the longest part is waiting for the fiberglass to fully dry.
good luck

I think the pic died. I can't get it to work.

Yeah my whole host for my email and web is down..

Sucks bad I tell ya!

It works now. That is awesome looking! A good thing for a rainy day in the garage.
