Post pictures of your truck with auxiliary lights

They are cast aluminum and appear quite strong. I am sure a direct front hit will wreck havoc on ore than the bar :).

Looks great, Al. Really improves the look of the front. Hopefully they're enough light for ya.

ENC, nice rock lights. :D

Sweet! Quick thing... I can't tell if the backside of the bar has any space, but is it possible to run the cables behind the plate holder and through the bumper?

Here is a Day and Night Picture of my Lights I put on this last weekend. They are all the Cheapo Harbor Frieght lights, But they look and work fine for me. The Top "Off Road lights" are the "Off road system" that you can get there and the Amber Fog lights are the 14.99 cheapo ones. I replaced the Stock fog lights (or what was left of them) with Aux. Driving lights from Meijer. I would say total I've spent about 60 on my lights. They get the job done.

I've added 4 amber LED's to the front license plate, and 4 red LED's to the "Ranger" plate n the bottom of my bumper.

Junkie, very nice setup  Can you post a bigger size of the daytime pics?

Close en-counter??

Don't know if it's landing or what... two sets left to put on. (Yes, it's leaning, that's me, not the rig :D Two more on the Bull Bar and two more on the bottom grill.

all that must be hard on the battery and the alternator, especially if the heat is on high,and/ or using the A C
at a stoplight the voltage and amperage must plummet,, do you have a solution to share with the crowd ?

Yes, I don't use those lights for anything except these pics :) Seriously, at some point I will do the 160 amp we discussed a while ago or add the second batt... but for now, those lights are just for pics.

5" Harbor Freight lights.. they use h3 bulbs.. I replaced them with 100 watt bulbs..

100 watts! Do they burn up the battery? What's the amp alternator that you have? Mine is stock 130...

Its a '92 with a stock alternator.. I think its a 95 amp (I can't remember what stock was)...

The lights take < 20 amps when running so it doesn't really hurt much..

I have them wired with a 3 way switch.... Up is ON.. middle is off.. down is on with high beams...

I've left the lights on w/out the truck running for 10 minutes and the truck started fine afterwards..

I'm not using anything really special for a battery.. Its a sprial wound excide orbital battery.. I expect to replace the battery this year as it is over 3 years old and I almost always end up replacing them (any battery) about every 4 years..

When night wheeling I have the headlights, aux lights, 10" fan and rock lights on and don't seem to have any issues.. Thats about 40 amps being pulled at idle... not including the engine/ecu etc...

hmm.. this would mean that the Ex would need a larger alt because there's more audio equipment... and that bloody cb! a 160 seem appropriate?

History of Lights

Pro Comp 5" Lights. Opend up holes to fit bigger lights a-la Suburu style;)

However...what works on the street... didn't work so good on the trail:(

Then moved light to behind the grill

New bumper...and moved them again:rolleyes:

and again....

Then with a paint job change...I desided the lights we're too small. and upgraded to bigger lights..

Then I added some to the roof;)

Possibly.. I havel have a CB and two amplifiers for the stereo.. At night, at idle I'm getting under 13 volts at the battery.. If I turn the stereo up it'll drop to just over 12V...

I don't spend that much time at idle so for me the 95 Amp alternator is enough for now.. A 130 could be better, but I'm not spending the extra money for it..

What I "might" do now that the X isn't a DD anymore (retired it as daily driver 2 weeks ago :chug:) I may put on a smaller pulley. Over the years, one of the rebuilt alternators I put on had a smaller pulley (about 1/2" diameter smaller). It would spin the alternator faster which gave me more power from the alternator at idle. I kept that pulley for a few more alternators. I finally got rid of that pulley when I noticed that I was replacing altnerators because of bearing failure about once a year (30-40k miles). When the X was a DD I would drive 75 miles a day and most of it was at 2500-3000 rpms.. With the smaller pulley the alternator was spinning fast all the time and the rebuilts just couldn't handle it..

The last straw was when I got a compely "new" alternator and it died after one year also.. I've put 80k+ miles or so on this last alternator and so far so good (it has the normal size pulley)...

Sooo.. in short.. If you can find a smaller pulley (not much smaller) you can get your alternator to put out more power at idle.. If your not always at high rpms it should last you a long time...

I don't remember what that pulley came off of.. I'll have to start looking around to see if I can figure it out..

...Maniak, I am curious what size belt you ran with that smaller pulley...I have a 160 amp I just got with the smaller pulley and I was told i needed about 2 sizes down in belt..

...And just some info, the higher amp alt's need the smaller pulley so when you are at idle, it will keep up your charging...The bad is as you stated, they wear quicker...I found a place that will completely rebuild the 160 amps for $120...Considering a 95 amp voltage regulator is $60 bucks by itself, I am going to do this a couple times, just as long as I can afford it...:dunno:
