I want to turn my Ex into a prerunner and I pretty much know how to do the suspension but I need info on the fenders. Perrys Fab n Fiber sells these fenders and the fronts are simple to put on except the rear, I think. How do you install these rear fenders on a four door Ex? Also one of the reasons I want to do the rear fenders is because I have a big rust spot on the rear left fender right above the fender well.

Look up Fenderguy. He had fibe. fenders at all four corners on his 1st gen X.

Same with NOTAJP, and a few other guys.

they are skins that mount on your existing body, how much of the metal underneath you chop is up to you.
A pre runner is a truck built specifically to pre run the race track so the team can plot out the course and trouble spots, etc. The term has become widly used to describe trucks with long travel suspensions built to traverse desert terrain at high speeds, and thats cool, but when you say I wanna build a pre runner just know that some people will look at you like, no you dont silly, you want to build a desert truck.

Also I could save you alot of trouble trying to build a serisou desert Explorer, there is one for sale on Racedesert.com right now built by Baker motorsports, a complete long travel a armed 2wd Explorer complete with cage and suspension, but they are looking for $30K or so, honestly its a very good deal :)

Thanks guys on the info, and trust me on this one my definition of a prerunner is not a Ranger with rinky dinky decals on the side, Fabtech or other offroad company stickers all bunched together on every inch of the windsheild, fender flairs, itty bitty little tubes on the front and back they call bumpers, and only F-150 spacers on the front end. I have enough kids around town that have these and when you ask them about the suspension they have no clue or give you the typical load of crap they have thinking their some badass. I'm not criticising these trucks Im just saying I'm not one of these kids who want to just put fenders on my truck and call it a prerunner, thats all :)

Thanks for the offer on the $30K truck but I think I'll pass on that one.

If I had the $$$ I would buy that Baker truck, its top notch.
Stickers and Fab tec definatley do not make a truck desert worthy, even with fiberglass :)

hey desert rat i would like to see how you X looks after fiber glass fenders i was loosely thinking of reducing the weight of the truck by getting fiberglass parts ie hood front fenders but i dont think i would be too cost effective

I welded brackets on the body then drilled the appropriate holes in the glass then used zeus tabs and attached them that way. They are a pain in the ass to get lined up and look good. The molds were a little off when I got mine. I can't imagine they made a new mold either so.....

The glass fenders aren't any lighter than stock. Then if you add the rears, you will only be adding weight.

I must say you did a good job putting no those skins, did they crack over time?
I have not been too impressed with the ones I have seen.

They do have a new mold, however now its the Gen III rear clip all fiberglass :)
They make some wicked front clips these days, Edge, F-150, Sport trac style, all for the BII, Ex, Ranger.....

I wont do rear glass on my BII I dont think, but I do plan to pull the bedsides once I chop up the floor and have a rear cage, etc I got some rear flares but not happy with the way they look, the BII is picky that way :)

They only cracked because of big rocks flying up from the tires hitting them. It seemed like Perrys used a lot of glass so they are pretty strong and thick.

For the new molds, I meant I doubt they have a new mold for the first gen rears. Mine, Paul Bredehoft's and FAKRWEE's (a 2 door), the molds were pretty far off in the back of the rear glass. I had the body shop that painted mine fill in a little with bondo to make the lines match up correctly. I did have to file and sand a lot for the fronts to fit right too. I've seen a few guys put the gen 2 rears on a gen 1 but then the cut out is there for the tail lense. I don't think it looks as clean.

If you just take your time they will come out looking good.

s6 if i was gonna get fiberglass parts the front end and hood would be the best investment

The hood isn't really any lighter either. It won't add weight if you just get the fronts and a hood but it's not going to take it off either. The amount of weight that doesn't change is pretty insignificant. Whether you're looking to get the glass for looks or functionality, just get 'em and slap 'em on there.

I would like to get an F-150 conversion or a ranger front clip for my truck too. I have a prerunner style bumper I fabbed together but its styled around the squareish front end of a 91-94 Ex so I dont know how good it would look with a Ranger front clip. If I could post pics of my Ex I would and after I get mt suspension set up I will definately will figure out a way to post pics.

check out hanemann fiberglass, i have heard their fit is a lot better....

i plan on going with hanemann when i do glass on my toyota, they have a tundra conversion for it, they probably also have a similar kit to do the f150 onto the ranger or explorer

Here is a shot of fiberwerx F-150 clip. Not too sure if it will match up with the gen 1 explorer lines.

The only thing is that I think it's all one piece, except for the rear of the front fender.

AutoFAb has the best glass fitment wise, but its twice the cost!
I lucked out when I got mine....

I would think the f-150 conversion in that pic would look good on the 1st gen Ex cause Exploders dont have that indentation on the upper part of the fenders that runs along the side. That blue ranger had a smooth front clip and the regular indentation after that.

There is an indented line on the upper part of the F-150 conversion in that pic. It doesn't go all the way to the front lights but it's on the rear part of the conversion piece.
