i just recently installed a Reese Multifit hitch on my explorer and i really like the way it looks and i think it will serve me well.

just wondering what kind of hitches you guys went with and why.

i'm partial to the tube-style hitches myself because after the install it looks so clean.

can i take a hitch of a 2000 ranger and put it on my 96 ex??????????

not likely.

my brother bought an explorer hitch awhile back thinking it would fit on his ranger because he thought the back ends were close to alike........he had to return the hitch and buy one that was labeled to fit on a ranger.

oh and his ranger was a 94

I have a Reese hitch on mine. I got it for $50? shipped and put it in myself. Even though it's not the tube hitch, I think it looks pretty good. I will have it up for sale as soon as I get my rear bumper made which will have a hitch built in. ;)

hey......^ thats not fair :(

I am also partial to the round tube style. I also wanted a hitch that would mount as close as possible to the bumper to help minimize any departure angle issues. The curt hitch below is exactly what I was looking for. I only needed to drill 2 holes (1st Gen only as other years have hole pre-drilled). I picked it up on Ebay ($69 + $29 shipping) from a hitch re-seller. I came to my door direct from the factory. :)

dude, that looks sweet.

where i work, last year we recently switched over to the curt custom-fit hitches which come in assorted colors.

pretty good hitch, put in some cases they weren't exactly custom fit and had to be adapted.

but that looks pretty good and yes the tube-styles hitches look great!

p.s. you cheat with all that nice shiny paint! ;)
us folks in this salt-covered roads state dont' stand a chance!

i have a valley tube hitch, looks sick! much better then those ugly square ones

I have the reese tube hitch, bought it because Advance could get it in next day, and it was down the street. looks just like the Curt, but black. I think I got it for 99 or 109+tx, works great looks great. I don't tow anything heavy, but it lets me get the 4x8 trailer level!

I used the hitch from my 93' on my 01' Fits perfect but, I now have to carry my 93' 15 inch spare because the 01' 16 inch will no longer fit. I pulled a 88' Towncar on a car trailer last weekend with no problems at all.

i had a Drawtite but i took it off cause it hung to low..then i put a BL on and theres no way i'd run it now.

Absolutly zero cheating here.. I too live in the snow/salt belt. New England weather has rusted out both my rockers :( . I spent a month reconditioning the frame and entire suspension. I Sandblasted everything down to bare metal and coated the frame, suspension, and drive line with POR-15 (a herculiner type of product)

Wheres the choice for other? I run a home-made hitch front and rear. At first I made my own rear hitch that was heavy duty. I towed a trailer a few times a week in the summer, it acted as a rear tow point offroad and took alot of hard hits offroad. It worked great. Now I have a home made rear bumper with the hitch integrated. Up front I ran another custom receiver hitch bolted to the frame. I sold it off to a member here after I built my front bumper with an integrated receiver hitch.

None of the above? I forget the brand, but its a round tube class IV. I will try to remember to take a pic.

man that thing is a work of art.

i wish i had the time and money to rip mine all the way down to the frame and re-do everything and paint everything.
