welp...this is my baby. got her in the fall of 2007 as a gift from an elderly woman at my church. she bought it right off the showroom floor when it was brand new, and she kept it in excellent condition. the only real driving she did was to church, grocery store, and to the flower shop (which she put a tarp in the back so no dirt would get in the carpet). when i got her she had a whopping 54k on the odometer! and of course the paint was in scratch less.

just after a fresh coat of black on the grill and the wipers.

roof rack is off and is staying off. once school is out im building some bumpers and a swing out tire for the rear.
got the T case in and wired into the dash lights. looks OEM when in 4x4 or low range.
than made the shift knob on a lathe out of some aluminum. debating if i should bed line that too...
IMG00237-20110426-2307.jpg

also did the spray on bed liner on the mirrors.

The Ex looks nice, I like the shifter nob.

Some progress has been made in the past few days.
i really wanted to get my SAS out of the way before i went for a 4.0 rebuild, but i felt the motor was more necessary right now. it almost overheated twice the other day with the Oklahoma heat index of 106*F.
IMG00450-20110628-2248.jpg

as if it just fell out. i didnt really have any trouble getting anything off. Y pipe bolts came right off with some PB blaster and i had to use the famous 3 feet of extensions to get one of the trans bolts out, but i feel it went pretty smooth.

x = completed

future plans include:
x bored block 50 over (need to see what pistons are available.)
x Comp cam 410 lift
x smith bros 5.550 pushrods
x new heads/valves/springs/etc...
x new crank
x new water pump
x clean injectors
accel ignition
x new timing chain
x all new gaskets
x all new bearings
x electric fans
x NO A/C
x upper intake manifold "fuel rail spacer"

while i have my X in the garage, some other mods include:
x real oil pressure gauge
New water temp gauge, the wires broke off of the sensor on the cheapie
HF one
Rear lunch box locker, either aussie or lock rite
Transmission fluid filter and deeper transmission pan.
Will add more when i think of it

read my build for ALL the part numbers and where i bought them at. only thing i didnt do is new pistons, boreing over and lifters.
theres someone selling lifters, scott b i think, $100. if you get those get 5.525" pushrods, but measure just incase.
i suggest the oil pump i have also, higher flow.
crankshaft i got was a $75 core and cost about $200 after. reman, fully ready to go in bearings included

yeah i definitely will. glad you logged all of the part numbers and sources.

more progress to be made....got more parts for a hell of a deal.
182 in all.
felpro full upper gasket set
felpro lower gasket set
felpro timing cover set
national rear main seal
master pro water pump
IMG00490-20110707-2232.jpg

more parts:
new (not reman) heads/valves/springs $515
Keith Black 50 over aluminum pistons $165
sealed power rings $73

only problem is that the Keith Black pistons and SP rings wont be in till august 8th...apparently 50 over pistons for a 4.0 arnt too popular:p:

more goodies!
crank/bearings
rockers
timing chain and guide set

all thats left is the cam, pushrods and headers.
anyone wanna sell me some used headers?

one more thing....
I <3 Media blasting!

this is where i ended tonight. tomorrow ill finish it and get it ready to go back in the truck

looks really good. buy why is your idler pully grooved? mines smooth. unless theres another way to route the belt and it needs to be grooved there then?

Thanks! i noticed that too after i bought it. im not really sure, i was gonna take it back and ask for the bigger metal one. but after thinking about it more, i figured a smaller plastic pully is less rotating mass then the big metal one, ill just route the belt on the other side of it to utilize the grooves.

any luck with routing it? im interested to know if it works or not

well im not sure yet. i dont see a reason why it shoulnt work. if it really doesnt work then ill just buy a metal one, or make one out of aluminum on a lathe.

the motor is actually bout ready to drop in. just needs the rear main seal in, and the repair sleeve put on the harmonic balance, and the RPM sensor bolt drilled out and re-tapped. (i broke it off in the timing chain cover.) and i also bought one of those heat only fan boxes. cuts down on alot of space... and thats it!
then ill be reassembling the dash, prob tomorrow and plan to have the motor in by friday. driving by saturday.

dash is all put back together and finished with gauges are installed. factory oil pressure and water temp gauges are non functioning.
DSC00002.jpg

non A/C heater box was installed.
DSC00003.jpg

thats it for now.

Thanks man. i did that box because i saw yours. i was going to just leave the A/C stuff there...but nahhh!

I did actually clean it, when I got it that thing was nasty! I saw no sense in really cleaning it up, now it just matches the rest of the engine bay.

now you see it!
photo1.jpg

now you dont!
photo3.jpg

what i didnt show was the 3 times i had to take out the engine once it was in place and on the mounts :p:

the hoist wouldnt go high enough, so this was my solution.
photo5.jpg

as of right now it is in place and bolted in. but i only have 4 of the 8 transmission bolts in... should be ready to start by this weekend.

the upper intake being off helps get the top two in, make sure to bolt the tranny dipstick to the top passenger one!
having the wheel wells off makes the others easier, so does the non-ac box.

im surprised you got it in with the torque convertor on, mine just wouldnt go in, had to bolt it on through the hole laying under the truck.

hoist didnt go high enough or were you hitting the celing? lol
