Great thread Jason, and thank you. Just ordered a 5 button FOB for my EX Sport with power lift gate. Lots of Ford dealers here in Central Florida but I hope my dealer will give me the best price for enabling the remote start. I can program the FOB, no sweat.

Believe it or not, I've used my heated seats twice this year. :p: For real though, I'm looking to have my Sport interior cooled down when I get to it in the brutal FL summers.

Remote Access System (Cell Phone/Web Based)
DL3Z-19A361-A (Vehicle Security System - VSS)
DL3Z-19A390-B (RMU Kit)
*Please note both were previously sold as a kit under part #DL3Z-19G364-A but that is no longer the case.

Just installed this Remote Access kit and thought I would add some more trivia. As stated, the new kit consists of the two part numbers above, whereas the "old" kit was the single part number (DL3Z-19G364-A) which still contained both items. The difference, other than the need to purchase the two separately now, is how the kit is wired up.

With the old version, it is plugged in to the TPMS module at the rear of the center console with a jumper harness, which requires removal of the rear and side trim panels of the console, as well as the glove box door. It is kind of a pain attaching the RMU & VSS behind the glove box since there isn't a lot of room (and you don't want to block the cabin filter access), but I had mine done in about an hour. There are still plenty of these kits around, and they usually can be scored for a nice discount (got mine for $300).

Here are instructions for that kit (probably posted in other places on this site as well):

The new version uses the same modules, again purchased separately, but it wires in to the OBD port and everything tucks in under the dash on the drivers side - much easier (it contains a revised wire harness for that). As far as I can tell, the function is completely the same, but for whatever reason, Ford saw fit to wire it in differently and sell it under the two part numbers. From what I have read, both kits still work the exact same way.

The latest instructions are here (From the Levittown Ford site):

http://www.levittownfordsupercenter.com/docs/2011_2014_Scalable_Kit_Truck_10_18_2013.pdf

This document also has details as to how the kits break down for all vehicles:

Activation was a snap as well. A parts manager at a local dealer was nice enough to do this as a freebie for me over the phone - took all of five minutes and everything works perfectly. If you install the kit yourself and any dealer tells you that it needs to come in for activation, they don't know what they are talking about.

So if I have a 13 explorer limited with the factory remote start and I wanted to add the
Bi-directional remote start I would need the following parts ? sorry having a hard time getting an answer from dealers on this.

1000' Bi-Directional Remote Start System
DL3Z-19A361-A (Vehicle Security System - VSS)
DL3Z-145603-C (Antenna Kit)
DS3Z-15K601-A (Separate Two-Way Remote Start FOB)

Correct

Other than some typing errors with the part numbers, it all comes right off the chart.

To make it even easier:

Now I'm confused again, on the chart two of the 3 numbers for one way remote start and two way remote start are the same. So if I already have the one way remote start installed, why wouldn't i only need the different part between the two systems (DL3Z-15K601A)?

If you have the 1000' one way (a separate FOB from the key) then you don't need the duplicate parts.

So if I have my dealer service department saying they will program the keys, cut the keys, and turn on remote start for $65, I have a good deal right?

Jmr, how do I go about purchasing your keys? How much? Do it over PM?

Thanks for all of your info. The 'accessories manager' or whatever he is, looked up my vin and proceeded to quote me the parts needed for adding remote start. I showed him yor post and he said, "sure we can do that for you, but its at your own risk if it doesn't work". Service manager said I would have to pay the full hour of a tech. Then my friend asked someone and I got the $65 deal.

My remote start was working great but now I go through the same sequence and the horn sounds once and will not start.

anyone know what the problem might be?

Is the check engine light on?

no abnormal conditions are present
Owner's manual:

The remote start system will not work if:
• the ignition is on
• the alarm system is triggered
• the feature has been disabled
• the hood is not closed
• two remote vehicle starts have already been attempted within the last
hour
• the vehicle is not in P
• the vehicle battery voltage is too low
• the service engine soon light is on.

The horn will sound if it fails to remote start so verify all the above. I would suspect a faulty hood pin or low battery if nothing else is obvious.

Thank you for the excellent info Jason!

I'm pretty sure the battery might be the problem. It was very cold last Friday and I had to get a jump start after work. It's been starting with the key start ever since which is weird why the remote start will not work but I guess because it's a different starting method.

Most systems have a voltage threshold and will not do the remote start process in order to conserve battery power but will still have enough voltage to start with the key.

2015 Explorer XLT - Dealer installed Remote Start $399 added to cost of vehicle. 2 Keys from dealer when purchased, third Key with remote start Button after installation. Vehicle only runs for 10 minutes then shuts off. Can you increase this time myself or do I have to return to dealer?
Thanks
