Return from C(not quite)CR'03 (Picks added)

Well, what can I say. We had fun, disapointment and a little carnage. Everyone arrived safley (David/AspenX didn't get there untill 4:00 A.M.). In attendance were Brian1, Marty196, Hvac man, AspenX and myself.
Much to are disapointment we awoke Saturday to a nice lovely rain storm. :( Not to let a little rain stop us we decided to hit the trail. The rain fell off and on most of the morning and made for some breath taking waterfalls and lots of water on the trail. We deliberated skipping Poughkeepsie Gulch, but adventure got the best of me (since I was leading) and up we went. Again there was a lot of water on the trail (running and in puddles) but it only added to the fun. The trail proved to be little trouble until we got the the main obstical. The rocks were covered in mud and wet from the recent rain. After abandoning my first attempt we watched the group from the Montrose run tackle the rocks. At least 1/3 of them ended up requiring assistance (winch) in order to scale the rcoks. After they left Clint (Havc man) took his turn. Unfortunately for Clint the rocks and mud proved more than his X could tackle. While Clint was attacking the right obsticle I gave the far left a shot  Due to the mud and a rather LARGE hole dug by an F-250 I could only get about half way up. :thumbdwn: Next I gave the right side a shot and almost made it on my first attempt. After that all efforts proved fruitless. Clint refused to let the obsticle get the better of him, and tried again. Several attempts (even with three of us pulling him with a tow strap) later the obsicle won and finaly broke one of his auto hubs. After this we broke for lunch and decided to head back down the way we came.
By the time we reached Engineer again we decided that there wasn't enough time left in the day to continue our trek to Animas Forks, so we made a change of plan and decided to run Yankee Boy Basin instead.
After Yankee Boy we all headed to Ridgeway and had dinner at The True Grit Cafe.
Sunday moring we woke up to a beautiful clear sky. Our group was cut from five to three for Sunday, due to family obligations for Clint and a tranny/t-case problem for Marty.
We ran Corkscrew Gulch across to California and California to Animas Forks. After a stop in Animas for luch we headed down to Maggie then Minnie Gulches. The day proved to be uneventful, but the scenery was spectacular.
Moday morning all that was left were David and myself. We planned to run Black Bear, but while preping for the run I noticed my radiator was leaking. Turns out the seal on the right tank gave up. So needless to say, we didn't make it.
I just want to thank everyone that made it and look forward to wheeling again soon.

Oh...yea....Picks are up: Mike's Picks

Great Trip

This was a great run guys! I had a blast. It sure is beautiful around Ouray. Mike, thanks for the cool campsite, and the hookup at the tranny shop. If you hadn't heard, my trans bit the big one monday after I left Mikes headed for Aspen. I got a new one in now, after a weak spent in Grand Junction.
You guys got some good pics. All your collections are cool. Marty, the pic you got of me in the waterfall with Clint behind me is now my wallpaper. Thanks for the beautiful shot! I hope to see you all again soon. Thanks for the great trip!:)
David
