SOHC oil pan on a OHV first gen

has anyone put a sohc pan on/in a ohv first gen?im in the middle of doing this and seen others put it on a ohv motor but in sec gens.it fits on the motor fine but hits the engine crossmember.i have done everything to get it to fit,raised the motor a 1/2 inch,notched the driverside motor mount so the motor can shift more towards the driverside and raised the trans by a1/2".it fits now but is very close,like a 1/2.so im making a solid trans mount and making it an inch bigger.:mad:

The OHV pan is aluminum, and the sohc pan is just stamped steel. I would think the OHV pan would get rid of heat better, and the have the same oil capacity. :confused:

Plus the drian plug location SUCKS on a SOHC pan:thumbdwn: Hell, I'd switch to a OHV pan on a SOHC, just for that.

the sohc is not steel,the removable cover is.im doing it to strengthen up my bottom end,i have a supercharger and the sohc pan acts like a Main Cap Stud Girdle
 






I should think it will fit. The block is essentially the same. The way I understand it, you can install anything from the SOHC on the OHV. including the heads if you do some machining. So I don't see why the oil pan wouldn't fit. You may have to use the oil pick up from the OHV.

The pan is on and yes you have to use a sohc pick up.thats not the problem,they are shaped different and its hitting on the passenger side on the engine crossnember.im making solid trans mount and engine mounts.both are going to be a inch bigger for clearance
 






Why not notch the crossmember and reform it to make it fit? I'm not sure where or how much it's hitting but that's what I would do first

I did start grinding on it but realized the amount i needed to remove was way too much and it hitting in more than one spot and would not be able to notch or remove any of that.i need solid mounts anyways,just give me an excuse to finally make them

Not to sound ignorant but I would love to see how someone put sohc heads on a ohv motor. The pan is about the only thing that is common between the two is the pan that I know of other than a few sensors.
 






That statement was admittedly hearsay. I was told you have to do some machining, but you could install all sohc parts in a ohv block. The guy is a great machinist, but he might have been blowing smoke up my ass.

Actually the crank, rods, some seals, flywheel, pulleys... It's the same bore, stoke, relative compression, same motor. They only modified it to have a SOHC.

Related but off topic: he has shoe horned a CB450 crank in a CB350 case to make it a stoker. That's bikes though.
 






SOHC ad OHV are two Totally different types of motors. He was smoking some good smoke :smoke:

SOHC - Single Over Head Cam - cam(s) are on top of each head ran by a series of timing chains.

OHV - Over Head Valve - 1 cam in the block where the valves are driven by lifters and pushrods
