Thats a clean shaven 14B Iz, looks good. I'm wanting to take out about 1", just enough not to have to shave the ring gear

Thanks Yomie!

If you dont want to shave the ring gear, I advise you to just cut out the bottom bolt hole and not touch the other two. The most difficult part of of my shave was drilling and retapping one of the original holes -- welding and heating hardened the welded plate (as well as the filler metal) almost to tool steel hardness (cementite? too much carbon) and it killed drill bit and tap. I'm not sure if it'd be any different if you stick weld the plate using E7018 (or other Hi-Ni) electrodes but after I was done (used a MIG), I threw the tap away.

Yeah, thats what i'm thinking, remove the lower hole and stay about 1/4" below the other 2 holes. Thanks for the info. Everyone i know around here has stick welders, so it will most likely be with hi-ni

Not really much of an update since I have a project due for work this week so I can't work on the vehicle too much. But these guys are here to joint the party:

7/8" heims for the panhard bars -- hopefully the 7/8" is strong enough ;). Accompanied by some 1.75" OD - 0.25" wall tube.

Exhaust parts -- 1.625" OD bends for the header flanges down to the collector and the collector bumps it up to 2.00" and its 2.00" from the cats on down. Catalytic converters are also a must:

Straight run exhaust tubes -- 1.625" and 2.00"s:

The header flange is in the mail (from the awesome canadian dude with the CNC laser) and should be here by the end of the week, along with the oxygen sensor weld bung. I'm holding off on ordering the muffler because that'll just go wherever there is free space so I dunno what the dimensions are yet.

Nice goodies...where did you get your exhaust stuff from? I'm looking to redo my exhaust from the cat back and get it tucked up higher.

Daaave!! Dave m'boy!!!!!

Here's my list:

If you run into space problems with those cats, I can track down the ones we use. Very small, like a nerf football.

Why are you runnin 2? Dual exaust or single outlet?

2 cauz the SOHC originally came with two (and FOUR oxygen sensors). I was thinking of switching to one cat but I said F it, I'll just stick with Ford's original design.

In most states you have to keep the OEM cofiguration to be smog legal too.

Yep...what DWD said....but it actually goes a little farther than that....it's a Federal Law. You cannot modify the #, or the location of Catalytic Convertors in a motor vehicle intended for use on public roadways.

It's just that some states will actually do a visual check for them during smog and safety tests. Luckily WE (DWD an myself) live in Washington, outside of Seattle city limits, and there are no tests required for us!...No smog, no safety, nothing!

This vehicle won't really see any road except on the back of a trailer :). Well maybe after I make it to the west coast and I find a state that will accept my vehicle as 'road worthy'.

But I'm keeping (or rather replacing) the cats so that I can avoid any ECU problems and also to keep this vehicle as 'green' as the stock config. Polluting may be cool to some people but lets face it, without those trees, mountains errode faster and the yummy rocks wither away ;). And we all know what happens when there are no mountains to crawl over but plenty of endless sand ----- switch to building a mid-engined pre-runner!!! :)

Dang IZ im trying to catch up with what your doing here.

Looks great as always. The idea is amazing

Thank you Mr. Burns!

I use a 3/4" heim for my trac bar on one end and the stock bushing on the other. However, the heim is one of the highest rated 3/4" heims around. It's working load was stronger than the 1 1/4" heims breaking strength I was looking at.

Thanks for the breakdown IZ, I might be able to salvage what I got but if not I'd like to start fresh from the cat back...custom of course;)

Impressive -- I'm curious as to where did you get it from?

Mine are QA1's although I purchased them from BallisticFab (always great service from them). Their catalog rates the 7/8" heim at 45k lbs static:

Sweet DB -- hopefully I'll see your rig at T-Haven this year (if I make it out again for the Turkey run).

Ahh gotcha, thanks for the info DWD.

Header flanges -- 3/8" thick of prime Canadian beef :
