I have a 98' ford Explorer XLT and it runs like a top................my only complaint is that when going over bumps or imperfections in the road, it is very rigid. My thought is that it may have something to do with my suspension. Perhaps new shocks or something?......................Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome
Do the shocks have any visible signs of damage, or leaking oil?

I will move this to the proper forum
Sorry for the delayed response!

how many miles, what shocks are on it, and have you replaced any bushings, control arms etc.?

I thought I was doing myself a favor and installed "monroe sensatrac" piece of **** shock absorbers. What a waste of $200 that was. In fact, both the front shocks blew out after 8 months, oil leaking everywhere, the right one was bent. My stupid ass replaced them with the same crap for some reason, and after almost another year, they're both leaking again. My wife drives the truck- it's hers. It gets driven on the highway about 90%. I don't know wtf made them wearout like that.

The monroe shocks made the truck shutter from front to back every time I hit a bump. They truly are not meant as a match for the stock springs- and they are weak.

I just installed Rancho RS5000's today, WHAT a major major improvement- OMG. Dude, I drove around for an hour and couldn't wait to hit every bump in the road that I used to go around...LOL. Now it's like a frikin Cadillac. Before I was scared to have open drinks in the truck because they always spilled everywhere, but now its just plain awesome. Hope they last, they definitely match the stock springs very well.

The monroes were just to light of a shock for the weight of the explorer, monroe didnt do their homework.

Not trying too steal the post but i also have a question.

gto78 was there any other modifications needed for the Rancho's. I was thinking about getting the Monroes cause of price. But if the Rancho's don't need any other modifying i will get those.

dont put monroe sensacraps on that truck.

mine did the same damn thing, spill drinks all over the place, shutter so badly that my neck would get sore and all the damn plastic clips everywhere kept coming loose. and this was when it is cold out. when the shocks are stiffer then they are when its hot.

when its warm out i would jump in the 87 caravan and drive that around because the explorer sucked so bad.

i installed them brand new and it was a worse ride then my broken air shocks. you wouldnt believe how long i tried to figure out what caused it. it was the pos monroe sensacraps .
