T-Case swap?

I torched the bolts out of the flange and have the exhaust at the secondary cats haning down (the truck is on a hoist), but it does look like they will fit back in the stock location. i got the expidition rear drive shaft (out of 5.4 truck), i'm going to pick up the front drive shaft and the shift linkage today or tomarow. My suspention is all stock (for now) so the drive shaft lengths should be fine.

PS: i didnt have to clearnce the body for the T-case to fit

well, i got it put back together so i could move it around (left the case in 2wd and put in the rear driveshaft) still waiting on linkage, front driveshaft, and conversion u joint.

The stock exhaust and cat bolted back up with no problem, i only looked at the clearnce for a second but i would say the cat has around 2"-3" of clearance away from the transfer case, maybe more, i'm a bad judge of distance.

the speedo reads just as good as the old t-case (does have the gear inside, i looked). i also had somthing pluged into the top of the rear end, would that be for ABS or could that be the speed sensor? ether way it doesnt really mater because it works fine for me.

THAT is the best damn news I've heard this week! WHOO HOO!! I was worried all this work I was doing was for nothing.

Yes...the sensor in the rear axle is the rear channel of the ABS. Later, they also utilized it for the VSS.

yeah, the exhaust fit in there with no clearance problems (i'm gonna have mine piped through anyway).

ok, anyone have any tricks for getting the bolts out of driveshafts? i went to a local junkyard today and spend about a 1/2 hour trying to get one bolt out of the flange so i can get a front driveshaft out of a 4.6 f150. i used the wrench on wrench technic and i was bending my 12mm in the shape of a parenticie "(" and it still would budge.

Try turning it clockwise just a hair, a few degrees if it will go. Spray it with penetrant of course.

yeah i'm thinking of taking a propane torch and my can on PB blaster next time (i thought about it be for i left and forgot, waste of 2 gallons of gas, D'oh)

you need stronger wrenches

I can beat my 12mm box wrench with a 8# sledge and its not bending
Instead of the wrench on wrench thing you may get a cheater pipe that will fit over the open end of your 12mm wrench = more leverage

Also a 1/2" driver with extensions/wobbly and 12mm 12 point can work on most d shaft bolts... even if you have to raise the rear tires off the ground to get the d shaft to spin a bit. from the factory the bolts are a real PITA they used thread locker on them

Ditto, the best tool is a socket that fits perfectly. Try to take tools that you have test fitted at home and no will work.

I got it out after heaing it with the torch and put it in today along with a tranny cooler and ruber lines i snagged off of 1st gen sploder for $10. this weekend or next week i plan on pulling the carpet back and making a hole for the shifter and throwing the geo tracker boot i snaged over it.
