Test Drivers Wanted

its cool, i got tired of searchin...i ended up just dropping the pan and 'wingin it'. hardest part is trying not to spill fluid on yourself. found out which one was the epc, unscrewed the retaining clip thing, and installed the new one. refilled with mercon 5 and took her for a test drive.

initial results look good: shifts seemed to have firmed up a little bit and seem to go a little smoother, 2-3 flare has dimished a bit. not bad for a free part!

i need to check my fluid level tomorrow, and do a bit more driving, but i am happy with it.

Hey, everybody! I just learned about this! Awesome! I sent my email a few minutes ago. Hope I can get in on the test.

The nice UPS man just dropped off my EPC COOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL
Now just got to wait till the weekend to put it in...
One thing an instruction sheet would be nice... But I'm sure I can look it up here and print it out...
Thanks again...
R...

finally got my valve today !

can't imagine the inefficiency of UPS. styx got his in Canada sooner than UPS got mine to me. I'm less than 100 miles from the factory....

no reflection on Valley Tools; all the problem was UPS. the Christmas shipping season is not the right time to change route drivers or add new ones. I've been in the same house for 18 years, same address, everything the same.

UPS' excuse when I located the valve at the Kosciusko, MS "hub" was that there were no street numbers in Ethel, MS....lol. We only have 5 streets !

before UPS had their strike a few years back, I always got my stuff before 9:00 a.m. every day. now I'm lucky if they deliver before 9:00 p.m. or whenever they think it's inconvenient for the customer.

sorry, had to rant a while...don't get the chance much at my age...lol ! :p:

Hey Jack it's prolly a long drive from the ware house to my place here in Canada and then all the way back to your place... Heck those brown trucks prolly don't go too fast on the interstates either... Heck they made it back to your place in a day thats not bad...lol...:D

Hey guys I am Cayce. I figured since I was the point man for the test EPC it would be good to join the forum. Hopefully all of you have received your EPC by now. If not simply email me. I have 2 EPC's left to ship and have sent 3 emails out that I have not heard from. I would request that the 2 that respond with the waiver will end up getting the parts. We will have a total of 25 in the test. Any questions please feel free to email me or post on the forum and I will respond ASAP.
Thanks
cayce

I do feel much better thanks for asking. I do need to let everyone know once the epc is installed fill out the suvey lines 1-17 and e mail back to my email address so I can get their 100.00 check mailed to them this will be done within 30 days of receipt of email. I have only received one back so far.

Welcome To The Forum Cayce! I haven't installed the part yet since the fiance is using the explorer for work everyday, The only chance I have at installing it is on a weekend. Thanks for the part

I have a few hunting trips planned in the next two weeks, but after that the EPC is going in  I can't wait, it is time to retorque the VB anyway. can anyone who has installed it comment on it's performance yet? Any EPC pressure tests to report on? anything at all? :dunno:

Welcome Cayce, and thanks for the reply to allow me to join the test. I gather that I need MS Office to open and handle the attachments. I shall see about getting that, I have it offered to me from long ago. I've been sick also since returning to town. I hope to be ready to do my trans next week. Regards,

All ya really need is MS Word ya don't need the whole office suite

I don't have any of it. My Father spent too much on his last PC, including an MS Office.

Thanks Charlie, this week has been too busy really.

got mine during the week putting it in tomorrow and will let everyone know how i make out

Well I got mine installed today and it seems to shift a little firmer than before...
No extream differences tho...
I do like the ATF all over my cat convertor tho that is nice...lol...
Lots of brake clean helps and I would put a piece of cardboard under the pan if I were to do it again...
Thanks again Cayce and others...
Cheers Randy...
Let the testing begin...

You're welcome, and thank YOU for going through the trouble of digging into your transmission for us.

The slightly firmer shift is a good sign; the EPC calibrations were targeted about 5 psi higher than the OE brand for a couple of reasons. On vehicles that don't have adapt logic, this calibration should be a more direct method of getting the same level of pressure boost you'd get if you installed one of those resistors you get with some kits. On vehicles that do have the adapt logic, the effect should eventually diminish as the computer updates the line pressure over time to target "ideal" shifts, but a little more pressure out of the box is something of a safety feature in case the computer doesn't get reset right away. If this were to happen and for some reason the pre-existing adapts had been to lower the pressure, then a "nominal" EPC's output pressure might be low enough to cause slippage until the computer re-compensated for the new part.

Thanks again to everyone who's joined this effort.

Still waitiing for my EPC; but I was late in...

I orderd a Viton D reverse servo seal and gasket to install while i'm in there. Also ordered a new filter and pan gasket as well. I would recomend anyone who has not done the seperater plate TSB upgrade that this is a good time for that. Also, torque those VB bolts, install a drain plug, and maybe even a band adjustment as well.
