My wife's wants a new car, and sence we can't afford a XC90 like she wants I was thinking of picking up a Volvo S60.

We have to wait till she starts teaching (sometime this fall) but I told her she could have a newer car. We were thinking of a Audi A4, but after sitting in my co-workers I relized how small it is :thumbdwn: I havn't sat in a S60 yet, but I like how they look and what I've read about them so far. I think I can get a 01-03 S60 T for around 20k or so. I'll probbaly try to sell her truck, sence I know they'll nail me on the trade in.

Any opinions or advice?

To me, the S60 feels about the same size as the A4 inside. The rearseat headroom isn't quite as good, and you need to watch your head when you get out.

Both are nice cars though, so either choice is a good one. Take a look at the 2.4 AWD also (or the T5, although pricier).

Bkennedy has a volvo. Cant remember what model it is though. might want to contact him if he doesnt see this.

My mother just bought a s60. I drove it home from the dealer. Its VERY comfy. alot better than the s70's weve had. It has a lack of power tho. I would get the t5 version if i were you, more fun to drive. The front has plenty of room, but the backseat legroom is pretty small. Trunk is kinda awkward. overal i think its a great little car. Adults wont be comfy in back seat for any long period of time

I love the Volvos and I heard that the Ford 500 was an S60 underneath the sheet metal. Does she like those at all? If so, maybe check those out?

Actually the 500 uses the S80 platform. (can't remember if the S0 is a shortened S80...)

I have heard that as well

the 500s are nice, especially with the extra head room...but like even car and driver said - the styling is just bland. It's not a stand out vehicle, and neither really is Volvo. So if she just wants to go along in traffic and not get stares - she'll like a 500. I did also hear that they aren't that powerful. Doesn't feel like it should. Oh well, that's why they allow you to test drive.

It'll be faster than her Explorer... :)
I've seen a couple with nice wheels and tires, tinted windows etc. Look pretty nice.

Stic-o, have you two gone and test drove any Volvos yet?

I was looking at 01-02 A6 w/2.7T and the 4.2 V8 and they were running in the 20-24K range w/30-60K miles on them... I was impressed with them as well, but found something that would work better for me...

Audis are sweet cars. I love mine. OOh there is an idea Stic-o, the Audi All-road.

Nope my wife will not even look at a wagon, I guess in the same way will not look at a mini-van. I don't mind a sporty wagon myself.

We have not testdrove any Volvo's yet. But yes I like the A6 as well! I rember she wanted a LS back awile, not anymore though.

Wagons are SWEET! :D I really don't know why I like wagons soo much but what can ya do...

Get her a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 XL with the divetrain swapped out from a crown '97 + Crown Vic or Towncar. She'd be the coolest chick in town! ;)
That's what I wanted to do to mine.
