What is the widest and tallest tire that will fit on the stock rims of a 1999 explorer? My friend might be giving me 33x12.5 and I was wondering if I needed to get new wheels.

the link is good and all but I think he was more wondering about the sise of the tire on the rim.

Well you can put a12.5 wide on a stock rim (7.5) but the centre of the tread will wear faster, and some shops won't do it. new rims would be a better bet

wtf?? 12.5 on a 7.5 is PERFECTY fine and normal. no weird wear and if any shop balked at mounting it i'd tell em to pound sand cuz they are morons.

widest you could saftley run on that wheel would be a 15.5, and it'd be hell to get it on.

we run 15.5's on 8's all the time...

for typical reference you want to stay 4" +-1" narrower on the wheel, than on the tire crossection (for offroad, non beadlock useage)
