- 2015 Explorer
I have a 2015 Explorer that's sat outside. I was a bad owner and let leaves get in it and clog up the sunroof drains, and so get water in the carpet, and a bit of surface mold in the interior. We got that taken care of, but the front passenger windows are intermittently failing to work, and now the windshield wipers and washers completely fail to respond.
I took it to a non-dealer mechanic that we trust, who tested the windows and said that the BCM was bad. I've taken off panels so I can get at the BCM. I've disconnected each of the connectors to the BCM and sprayed both the socket and the connector with electrical contact cleaner. That seems to make the windows *slightly* better, but they still fail to work intermittently. They don't stutter at all (as I would think they would with a loose connection) they just work or don't work.
I also opened up the area around the steering column and sprayed contact cleaner on the wiring bundles going to the steering column stalks. No change.
I've checked the fuses for the wipers, both under the hood and in the BCM itself.
So 1) Would a failing BCM exhibit these symptoms?
BCMs my car cannot be had from Ford. :-/
There are some used BCMs on ebay that are an exact match, both lines, from the part number to mine. If I were to try to buy one and transplant it, I would need to have the programming transferred so that it would have all the right options and recognise the keys etc.
There are services that advertise on the web, and even on ebay, that will transfer the programming from one BCM to another. I suppose I could bring the two to a dealer and try to convince them to transfer the programming, although I'm sure that they would argue about it.
So 2) Has anyone else done this? 3) How did you transfer the programming?
Thanks for any information.
