Transfer case 1354.

My 1998 Ranger 1354 Electric Transfer case is acting up. 106,000 miles. Just replaced the electric shift motor. Now when engaging 4 high at 30 mph, it goes a hundred feet or more and then makes a hard shift/grind. While parked, it seems to engage the front end immediatly. The syn oil in now brown and has some non metalic particles in it , limited metal present. The hubs appear to work normaly. Any ideas
