Truckhaven 2001!!

Nearest town to Truckhaven

Mac,
The nearest town is Salton City, but not much there in the way of services: 1 gas station and a small market is about it.
The nearest town with much to offer is Borrego Springs. Map Reference: DeLorme, S. Cal, 116B1. You'll see Truckhaven Dr. The area N. of that rd, and S22 is where the run is. If you don't have a DeLorme atlas, and you plan to run much in S. CA, I strongly reccommend you get one. The GPS grid edition is a plus.

I will be going through Vegas to get there, so keep me posted on any caravans being formed from there on down.

Mac,
From Borrego Springs, go east 30something miles on S-22 til you reach Highway 86. Turn left (north), go 2 miles and turn left (west) on North Marina Drive. You're there.

I'll be going out there at least once before T2001, so I'll let you (and everyone!) know about it.

It seems that me being a lost idiot is turning out to be the start of a nice little convoy. As of right now we have 4 possible Explorers going through Vegas to Truckhaven 2001. I'm not sure what dates everybody is wanting to go though. I'm going to get the time off withen the next week or two so as far as I'm concerned I'll be there. Anybody else who would like to go through Vegas to Truckhaven PM me with the days you would like to meet in Vegas and leave for Truckhaven? Also would you like to spend some time here or just meet and hit the road? I'll start to get a general idea of what all needs to be done before the time comes too near.

As for me I'd like to leave Vegas Friday afternoon to get there sometime Friday night for a good night sleep before hitting the trails, and then make the return trip sometime Monday night. I also think that it would be nice to at least maybe go out to lunch or something before hitting the road. The guys at 4wheelparts have also said that they'd like to see some of the Explorers built up in person.

What do you think?????

Rick,
We plan on leaving Thursday morning, getting there Thursday evening. We can then do some scouting if need be. When are you planning to be there? Any books or the like that I could pickup that would help?
To all planning to attend Truckhaven2001
Please read Trail Equipment.
Please try to get all the Required Items
You have plenty of time to start aquiring these items now.

We plan on this run being as big as we can get it. This is a very good place for newbie's to see what their trucks can do. so come one, come all.

Ray, we'll leave PHX Thursday night after Char gets off school. That will give us all day Friday to get play! We don't have to leave until late Monday.

There are no books that I know of which details the fourhwheeling at Truckhaven. Ray Hutchinson mentioned trails outside of Truckhaven, they sound like they would be interesting to add to our agenda.

I'm planning on a Truckhaven trip sometime soon. maybe latter this month or sometime next month. Nothing big just a get together and a scouting trip.

I'm inviting Ford to join us again. I don't know if they will, but we can give it a try. Vivian want's me to give her a write up about the trip for possible publication at their Outfitters website.

Rick

Truckhaven before Jan 2001

Definitely Rick or Bill let us know when you are planning on going, I am free every weekend, so anytime is good for me. Hey and check out the Aug Rubicon trip report Peter did. It's really good and some great pictures.

Keep me posted

leebo,

I will be free to go anytime. I would like to get down there as soon as possible. I will probably travel to Vegas Thurs evening so I will be able to leave anytime on Friday. Just keep me posted!! Thanks.

is truckhaven closer to San Diego or Corona? Just wondering, I might make it with my friend Sean in his stock Bronco(taking in to Desert Rat on monday for 6" superlift and 35's) and be able to visit whoever friend is the closest after. :-)

DeamoN
Living in Corona, I think Truck haven is closer to San Deigo
Not real sure but looks that way on the map.

Well, I'm already planning for this.

My number one question:

Is this going to be limited in number of vehicles this year?

I hope not - if it comes down to that, I'd be more than happy to just wheel, and ignore any other festivities. :-)

Otherwise, I can't wait!

NOOOOOOO. Please no!!!!! Please keep it open to anyone and everyone. Explorer or not....heck I'll even run with a J#@$. I'm sure it is an open run, but just to put in my say so(like that's much).

Keep it open

I b elieve one of the advantages to truckhaven is you can have as many vehicles as you want. HOWEVER, this time we need to seperate into more groups... we'll have a few people with reasonable knowledge of the terrain this year so we'll have no reason to not seperate in to 3 or 4 groups. Leebo, we let a jeep come along last year, but thats because it was the photographer for Four-Wheeler magazine! We all saw what happened when you get 20+ vehicles on a tight trail, obstacles take forever and the people behind you get ticked off. I was near the front most of Truckhaven but heard the complaints of those in the rear, that they were just sitting there forever bored to death.

The run is open to all Explorers and Rangers. If others show up who are friends of the Explorer and Ranger owners they won't be kicked out, we just don't want to advertise it as an open to all run.

Matt is 100% correct about the size of the groups. I want to limit the groups to about 10 vehicles MAX. I'm working with 6 people right now who could potentially lead groups.

Hey all sounds like fun. Just a couple of questions, can a little old 1995 Limited Explorer come along, the only mod done so far is a drop in K&N Air filter! I may have to stick to the Mild to Moderate trails though!

Second question (kind of off topic) but what do the pics of the Explorers under out usernames represent? Some people have 1, others have 5?

Thanks

if it helps any rick, I can tailgun a group for you.. I'm sure that's almost as important as a group/trail leader.

Thanks Tom, you're correct, a good tailgunner is of utmost importance to make sure the "flock" stays together.

ilikedellcomputers,
There's always room for a stock Explorer and plenty of trails for them as well. The little Explorers under your name come from the number of posts you've made. The adminstrators and moderators all have 5, except me because my husband thinks he's funny. However, that's a different story.
Hope to see you at Truckhaven! It's a BLAST! :D
