Hi guys, new to posting but have been on here for years maintaining my 2002 4.0.

I have intermittent overheating issues. The truck will run hot, then back to normal whether or not I am running the AC or heater, driving uphill or coasting or anything else I can determine. Checked under the hood and saw water coming from the top of what i am assuming is the thermostat housing.

Is this indicative of the housing being cracked or could it be the thermostat/gasket. Am I better off replacing the water pump to be on the safe side?

Also, if I go the water pump route do I need to remove the fan clutch?

Thanks!

Wow, your post has been up that long and no one has replied to you. I thought mine was bad. well after this length of time I am sure that you already have done what you were asking and I would have done the same as if you have to remove something to get to another part you may as well( if money is available) replace those parts so that you do not have to repeat your work and you are planning on keeping that ride.
