Hi everyone, I just found your site and was excited to see all of you that own the elustrious Ford Explorers. I was wondering if anyone is using Splitfire plugs and/or wires and would like to know how they are better than the Champions, Bosch & NGKs.
Your input is greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard to much about the splitfire's with explorers. I don't think I'd personally go with them. I know people are fond of the E3 diamond though..

...Welcome here...:D

...You will probably find that most here run Autolite Platinums or Double Platinums...If you do a search, there are several threads about plugs to be found here...;)

Oh yeah, Splitfire plugs! Those were big back in the 90s, everybody wanted them in their car!

They've fallen out of popularity since then, tho, I didn't even know they were still around. I never used them, so I can't vouch for them... :dunno: But it seems to me they'd still be popular if they were anything special, and since it sparks just like any other plug it probably doesn't make too much of a difference.

thank you for posting this!! ive never really tried that brand/ let alone heard of them, but ive been meaning to change something (my plugs) and i could not remember at all what it was until just now lol

thank you so much for all your replies. I got distracted with my truck having to get a very expensive fuel pump assembly as well. ARGH! That question I posted today as well. Is $400 too much?

Electricity will take the path of least resistance. So if these plugs have more than one tip, it's not worth it. Just go with OEM spec.

ALL of the spark plugs that are like this (Splitfire, +2, +3, +10,000 etc.) are no more than marketing gimmicks. As stated above, electricity will take the path of least resistance and you only get ONE spark each time the plug fires. It may change which prong it comes off of, but you still only get one.

Don't waste your money on plugs like these. Stick to a quality Motorcraft, AC Delco, or other name brand plug (Not Bosch :thumbdwn:).

Splitfires have no internal resistance. They will not work for long, if at all.

Been there.
I actually had a set foul out so bad the truck wouldn't even start. Imagine how long it took me to suspect 2 week old spark plugs, which, showed spark.

...I actually had the Bosch plugs work pretty well on German motors...I had run them on different Ford trucks and they usually started acting up after about 6 months of normal daily driving and they quickly got swapped out...

...I haven't used them since...
