I trying to decide what to do on my truck first. Buying a locker for the rear or getting a winch. I went out a couple of weekends ago and got my ass stuck in mud a couple of times and once I needed help to get out, luckily I went with a buddy and we brought a tow strap. Any opinions?

hmmm this is a good question

the strap got you out this time, but maybe next time it wont

Do you have anchor points for a winch (on the rigs and on the trail)?

A locker will get you further off road, which can mean MORE STUCK lol or you make it through

with a winch usually you can make it out

I got away with not having a winch for many years, but a winch also saved our butts plenty of times (not our own) a rear locker rules but now that we have winches, I change my vote...winch first

My locker helps my winch get more use.

Cost saver:

1) minimize exposure to mud.
2) never go alone.
3) get longer tow straps (and/or extension straps).

Ok, sounds like I'll be getting the winch then first. Thanks guys.

Yep, I agree(even though I don't practice what I preach) get a winch first.
It's more costly, but will get used a lot. I used to go wheeling a lot back in 2004/2005 with a buddy with a Jeep. We both were locked front and rear and there was plenty of times we had to use the winch on his Jeep.

4) NEVER tie straps together, use shackles.

I say locker...and know your trucks limits. And most important, never go out alone! A locker will keep you from getting stuck in the first place alot.

Out here in the west there is not always something to hook a winch to. It just dirt! I've had my winch for years and only used it to pull other people out, never myself

Ahem! That would be the Southwest, it's a different story in the Northwest.

I say winch. Soon to follow with a locker.
