Yeah i think someone told me that after the fact that i had everything bought. Is there much of a price difference in the gears?

You dont have to change carriers if you havent already bought gears. You can get a set of thick 4 series gears for the 3 series carrier.

4:56 isnt very low considering you're gonna run 37's. Do you have other plans or did i miss something?



I have other plans also. Got a link on that 4 series gears in a 3 series carrier?
 






No link, but just about any place that sells gears will sell the correct "stock" gears or "thick" gears for say running 4:56's on your 3:50's carrier.

Progress for today :

Ground down the Passenger side "C" till i found the joint on about half.. need hearing protection to finish.

I did get one part to paint. :D the wife talked me into cleaning and preping it myself. said it will give me something to do while waiting to earn money to finish.. smart wife dontcha think?

if anyone needs pic of anything let me know so i can take them as i do them.. oh also picked up wood to make the mock 1/4 steel peices... cheaper.

33 29/32 stock lenght ujoint 5-297x

27 15/16 Eb lenght u-joint 5-260

research says :

5-260X/5-297X are all interchangeable. But i no think so i think i reading it wrong. The good thing The outers on the EB are the same as the 79

need to start a thread to discuss this and upgrades on axle shafts and u-joints verus cost.

ok the 760X is an upgrade to the 5-297x and i can get axle shafts from the broncograveyard that have 760x u-joints in them and keep my outers.


wow in the wee hours of the morning i am cryptic.

little more info. I want to narrow my axle to the WMS of an EB axle. 59" or 61" that of a jeep grand wagoneer.

If i go with a HD shaft from an EB on the passenger side it will use the "upgraded" 5-597x or 760x and I can keep my outer as its the same size and eveerything and takes the right u-joint.

Now i am still looking up the Info my the right jeep shaft. Cause I would prefer to be at 61 over 59 so i can have wheel spacers.

correct..and the 760's ROCK...I mic'd my 297's at I think (ya have to check my thread) .50..the 760's mic'd at .90 HUGE diffrence..it was enough to be noticable from across the garage...and theyre not that much more than the 297's..worth the difference..:thumbsup:

cap size is the same..they went right in my stock axles...I think either the outter wall thickness is less..or the cross is less..or both..but the needle bearings are big enough they shouldnt crack and shatter like the stock ones do in the 297's (whick leads to joint failure..)

I just went fullwidth hpd44 on 36's, and its awsome. :D

But Im curious to your gearing... is there a doubler in the plans with those 4.56's? Because they are no where near low enough. I have 513 and wish I had 5.38, spas had 4.56's for a day with 35's until she had had enough and went 513.

You cant cut it down and run just one stock EB shaft. The stock EB shafts use the little 260 style ujoint instead of the bigger 297 the truck/big bronco uses.

I got 2.5" jhonny joints with a cast on 1.25" shank for $35 from www.trail-gear.com It was about the cheapest I could find. Add the jam nut and weld in bung and it was around $53 each or so. I liked them better cause I dont have to weld a bolt on to them and risk warping the unit.
