Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

ok so i dont want to read how ever many pages to find what im looking for... its late! if i can put 31's on my gen 1 sploder stock why would i need to trim the fenders with a 3" body lift? 2" bigger tires with 3" of extra lift... seams kind of like they should fit.

?

As far as 32s are concerned I like the 32x11.5x15 BF Goodrich All Terrain TA/KO. I haven't looked into 31s, what tires do you recomend comperable to the BFG's?

I have accually been thinking about this. i have 235/75/15 BFG, want to go bigger. could i get away with 32x11.5x15 on my stock wheels with 2in shackle lifts and a torsion crank?

You might need to trim a litle but just go for it. Get some tires and lift and enjoy your hard earned money at work on the trails.

every truck is diff for sure. i got a stock 97 eb 4x4 and have 265/75/16 at's on stock wheels.also there is only minor rubbing on the top of the inner fender.

my sport came stock with a in rim... i have now 255/70/R16....can i move to a 31 inch tire with no problem? everything i have searched is for the 15x7/8 rim....

how much trimming would u have to do on a first gen to put 33's with a 2" suspension lift

Hello everyone I'm new to the site and new to explorer and mountaineer, I owned a jeep cherokee for the past 4 years and sold it. I would like to know if anyone ever has lifted a AWD mountaineer or explorer if so please let me know. I have a 00 Mountaineer AWD 5.0 I would like to lift it 2''-3'' if I can find a Lift in my bugget the list above is very helpful I didn't even know what would fit stock. Thanks for your help

I'm doing a 2" suspension lift (TT with add-a-leafs and shackles). I'm looking into BFG 32x11.5x15 tires. How much trimming will be nessecary? What, exactly will need to be trimmed? I assume it's not too hard to do??

I accept with information: Let's see, the inner fender liner, the rear corner of the front fender, the front bumper, and you still might hit the top of the fender upon compression. Or....they could fit easily. It all depends on the truck! My suggestion is to find someone with 31 or 32s and testfit them after doing the lift, then decide.

hey just joined the site in hopes to get some kind of idea about what i am wanting to do to my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2Dr. I do a lot of surf fishing off of the coast and i'm really interested in these:
-Nitto Dune Grapplers
http://nittotire.com/index.html#index.tire.dunegrappler

Looking at getting some 33's of these put on. Only problem that i see im running into is that they only offer these in 18'' rim sizes but due to the chart made up... if i am reading it correctly it says that i can only fit 15'' rims with 33'' tires. Is this correct or am i reading the chart all wrong? Can anyone help?

G'day and welcome, 33's is just your overall tyre diameter, the tyres in my signature are 32" and next time I'm looking at 33" which are 295/70/17's (mt's not dunes) look at your overall diameter for your tyre/rim combo options mate. In that list you've got 15",16",17"and 18" all within coo ee (close to) 33". Hope this helps.

i was thinking of 33s or 32s on a 94 with 7 inchs of lift but i want to keep my speedomiter acurate is there any thing i can buy for my speed cable to adjust that

Need Guidance

I have a 97 Explorer Sport 2dr and was told by a friend i could not go more that 2" with a suspension lift because of the way the 97s are built? also, would a 2" shackle on back and 2" torsion twist on front be able to fit 31x10.5s without ribbing/scraping? thanks

I just tossed a set of 265/75R15s on today (factory rims)

I know it's close to a 31x10.5 but not everyone does ;)

Thanks for the reply, but it does not address my question
