I was wondering how it would look with them painted black, if I do.. I'm going to Leave the center cap things unpainted and put them back on.

Could you make em a bit more glossy and darker? Like some of the trucks on this forum with this idea?

And the other side?

If it's not too much to ask...

If I make them darker you won't be able to tell what wheels they are. It's the quality of the picture.

The other side eh, how's this?

Huh?..

You juss flipped the pic around.... lol

Is there any special paint I need for this?

Layers of clear? Would that make it glossy? Or is that for protection? I'm not a paint person as I'm sure you can tell.
And I checked out that thread before. Just wanted a look at mine with that look.
I'm not sure just yet, If I don't like it.. this isn't undo-able.. or is it?

The clear coat makes it look glossy, and also helps to protect. The more layers you do, the better protected it will be.

The way I did mine to protect from overspray, was to wedge notecards in the crack between the tire and rim, like so. Don't forget to tape the notecards together, so that they don't come out. Also, you should cover your valvestem with masking tape.

I have painted my wheels twice, so I have one black set...

And one set that matches the body

Good luck, and be sure to post up the final results!

get some very heavy gloves-chemical gloves-from home depot
while you are there-get some muratic acid.
You have been to school yes-muratic acid--do I need to say be careful with muratic acid?

mix it with water in a large trash barrel and soak each wheel for 1 minute-then rinse. You should be able to get them pretty clean this way--for about 10 bux.
If they need further cleaning use a bit of dawn dish soap and water to scrub them. wipe dry. The muratic acid and water can go down the drain---it is just a big batch of drain cleaner now--
But the wheels should be etched real nicely-a lot easier than 5-6 bux worth of sandpaper could do-

Paint and clear coat--use good paint.

I wish I could just send them to you jtsmith.. lol

Yeah I'm sure I'm not as good at PhotoShop as all of you...But this is kinda what I'm doing to my Limited rims, but black :)...Oops I did them green not black!!! HAHAH oh well! My bad!!! I mis read it...Got black and green maxed up haha!

^^actually kind of what I had in mind-
I'd like to see green with silver tears--but I think that looks better.

I think the hole green with silver tears would be to much haha IMO but I love when people color the inlay black white or the color of there truck!

I had thought about doing that also, because I have seen other Explorers with the inside of the tears black, I'm not sure if certain ones came like that or it's a custom thing, but I liked the look. I think I'm more likely to do that than paint the whole rim black.

I believe some early mountaineers had the tears painted black.
