So,
in the aftermath of this mad thrash

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242451&highlight=purple

While it was raining I decided to do some other little maintenance items to the truck, having it all apart--

One of them was installing some fancy battery post connectors. I powdercoated them red and black, installed them and all was good.

I had an 8:00 appointment to get the exhaust repaired-so I went out at 7:30 to head there. I turned the key and "click"
Call them to cancel--:(

I then spent the next 3 hours checking, re checking and replacing the post connectors again , with cheap direct connector ones just to make damm sure I was getting good juice.

Click. Evry thing I tried --click

OK, now, WTF---

I was finally able to get the starter out, and when connected directy to the battery it was dead. Can you believe it?

I couldn't.
For you not aware of the wiring on these starters, there are 2 large posts and one small one. The battery connects to one of the larger posts, where the current is carried to the other post byt the internal solenoid. From the other post to the starter motor there is a braided wire thingy--

When I touched the positive jumper to the braid, the startrer jumped to life

So, I took it all apart, twisted the braid tighter, bolted it back up and it is working for now. I know it is a matter of time, so I am going to be getting a new starter soon.

I called the muff shop back, they said be here at 3:30

I drove it to the muffler shop, they got the exhaust patched up and all seems well now.

do you have pics of the superlift limiter straps?

I decided to try " color coordinating"--let the hatin' begin

Whenever I run low on a certain color, I dump the remainder into a spare tub,

All the colors mix together to be this weird shade of purple-so I went with it to go along with the Trailmaster logo lettering. The purple also has a lot of the prismatic glitter in it--
Base color for the diffy cover, and swaybar brackets is " Titanium metalic"
Swaybar is smoked chrome

Oh, take careful notice of the extended, trailmaster lift 5th shock--

It looks great to me, the only thing that looks odd is the yellow vent hose, the crooked parking, and the rust on the bumper.

3rd shock AND dust boots? LOL Looks nice!

Ditch those and you're golden!

Shock boots only collect water and mud, rust the shock... if you were running the shock behind the tire in the sand then shock boots will protect the shaft from pitting, just IMO

that 3rd shock = purpose? Your v8 has track bars, you can lose those too :) or make disconnects for them

The fifth shock smooths the ride, believe me I just installed it. Also, since it has a center mount point it has very minimal effect on flex.
I have Mountaineergreens 410 rear axle, and, 410 rear axles have no trac bar mounts. Believe it or not.

About the shock boots, I understood as long as they were top boots they were ok,

Oh sorry man I was just razzin ya! These things are a matter of opinion LOL

No trac bar mounts on a 347 V8? 3rd shock needed, heck trac bars needed too! the axle in my BII wraps up so bad, you get used to it LOL

I knew you were, after reading what I typed I sounded kinda short. Ooops

Wouldn't the trac bars inhibit rear flex though?

yes big time
Joe Dietz (friend of mine) hade quick disconnects for his :) He put a Gen II 8.8 into a Gen I and added the factory trac bars, with a spring over conversion, he is running a 5.0L HO and 4r70w setup, very nice truck.

the trac bars hurt articulation off road, but the three or 4 times I have wheeled my 96, I left the sway bar and trac bars installed and it did GREAT, if it was my trail rig I would LOSE THEM, if its a weekend warrior/dual purpose I would make disconnects for them

I still think you will find when water/sand/dirt find their way into your shock boots, it will collect at the base of the shaft/seal and rust happens, no boots = MUCH easier to keep clean and rust free. I killed my first set of 9000's this way

Ditto, if the shock boots could be kept out of deep water I would keep them. Any deep water that reaches them will bring dirt with it. You could deal with clean water because of the drain holes at the bottom. Any dirt that can get up in there would stay, and you don't want to have to remove the boots often.

Ok,
Not to mention you now have me shopping for purple vent tubing--:p::D

What's wrong with black, and the original hose was black? That silver gas tank looks out of place, you need to repaint that next.

Alright wise guy:p:

Isn't that over spray on the tank also? LOL, I'm being mean sorry. That does look so much better than stock, and mine is nearly stock as it is. I'm gone, it's nice here and I have to get outside. Regards,
