Triangles instead of "L" brackets will improve the strength of the pivot area.
When the joint just won't hold
Or if it's bending under load...
Don't exasperate,
Triangulate!
Dumb rhyming bugs not gone yet
and this one sucks...

Do a search and look at some bumpers what have been done here, and look up off road shops Jeep bumpers. I used a 1500 pound trailer spindle, but wish I had boxed it top and bottom so it didn't wiggle. I have had to make repairs twice due to stress cracks in the mounts.

Actually that will be a future mod!! Thanks for the info!!

It has begun at Robert's house. Tacking the mounting bolts in place, the tire was left on simply to make sure the bolts are in the right place.
Robert tacking the bolts in place, luckily he has a welding mask on and you can't see his ugly mug.

And I broke his mig welder.

Now to run back to my house, forgot the plate to make the angles.

The cutting and reshaping has begun, band saw a heck of a lot better than trying to cut with a grinder.

Well, it's gonna to have to be finished next weekend, cutting torch tip is bad, even after cleaning it, so we just drilled the alignment holes and then will finish next weekend. (and no we can't "run" down to the store and get a new tip, nearest hardware store is a little over 70 miles)
Drill, baby, drill!!
OOPS, drilled thru the vise on the drill press!!!
Since everything was put on hold, we just decieded to pull the dead tree down.

Thanks Dan!!! I was trying to explain to him the triangle type brace, and he had me confused, (we were looking at it at different points of view) but it was really funny when he fired up his torch and the cutting tip was clogged. He was getting ready to cut the plate into the braces. I got the blame for both pieces of equipment failing!!!! (but I did do the drill bit thru his vise)
