supercharged 5.0 true fire 98 explorer sport

hi everyone, my name is tim . i live in selkirk, manitoba, canada and as if this date that i am posting this, i am 36 years old.

i bought my sport in jan 05 from a local ford dealer. it had 111,000KM's on it. this is the second sport i have owned. it was sitting on the lot for about 8 months before i came along. i am the third owner (i was able to track down the person that traded it in, and they got it from a friend, who bought it new in 98).

i started to do a few things to it after i first got it, then i found this site, and all hell broke lose! i've never been satisfied with something the everyone else has, so i started to tinker with it even more.

Awesome work there on the inlet tube. Is that a 4" opening, which will be great for a 90mm or larger TB.

I see two sizes!
Why two sizes? Just curious.
Was the aluminum 2 inches deep and if so how deep was the steel one?
Do you have enough clearance in the bottom of the supercharger for another 1/4 inch or so?

yup, you see two sizes. i made one that will clear the stock fuel lines, and fpr. the alum one will clear after market rails with a remote fpr for people who dont want to, or want to try and avoid cutting the hood (and we know who they are). the steel one is around 4 inches tall. the alum one is a little over 2 something inches tall (right around the size of the EE mount). i have the super charger sealed up right now so i cant look inside of it. i will imagine its the same as yours.

good eye. yup, 4 inch pipe. i did that because the blower inlet is 4 inches if you measure it out. and i will tell you, it is a ***** to cut it with all the angles (remember, i have no fancy machinery, its ALL done with a haft inch grinder with a zip cut wheel, or sawzall). i did make a jig using the first tube so life will be a little easier, and not make me want to turn to hard core drugs making them. but even still i have to line up a spot or two to the inlet opening, tack it, then make a slice, bend it, hammer it, tack it, swear at it, and repeat it all. it dose take some time thats for sure. i can get them pretty close, but not totally dead on. that and the other thing i hate is that you will see some hammer marks on the tube, but i cant really do much about that. :(

Already turned to drugs!?!?

intercooler core

If the total inside length is 14.5 and you can get another 1/4 inch clearance under the supercharger then...
They have a core that is 2.25 tall,3.3 wide, and 12 inches long. You would then have 2.5 inches for end tanks which is plenty ( I have one that is .5)
You could tailor the top plate to fit snug around the intercooler in future designs.
The price on the core by itself is 155.00. Still need end tanks, fittings etc, and labor. Here is a link to the Air to liquid core sizes.
http://www.bellintercoolers.com/_pages/lachart225.html

If you make this fit under the hood with the option to intercool, I may just have to do a 5.0 swap.

dose

ahodges
dose...
lol, and that was after he was swearing too.
This is becoming a non family oriented post.

 :bounce: I've done enough innovative things on my truck for the time being, it's time for me to spectate and take notes! cough cough.. time to ditch the M112 and go bigger Tim ;)

4pointslow there is around 3/4 of a inch on both front and rear of the opening dimensions that i posted. however, curiosity was killing me, so i hobbled out to my shed (im off work right now, hurt my back lol) to see how much room i have under the blower, well.......

10555249_10152253109212513_267593612_n_Medium_.jpg

none :( when i started looking at things it looked like i would have around a inch of room until i saw what is in red. i cant mill that out, thats part of the wall of the blower.
phooyie
and you cant do a 5L swap either! lol, dono was by here yesterday and we where talking about your truck. i was telling him if you could find a way to get a stock hood on yours, that would be the ultimate sleeper.
ahodges, yes you have. i dont know how many times i have asked "hey andy. how did you do this, and that?" lol. but its funny. a horrible circle of bad influence if you ask me. john was one reason why i started this m112 in the first place, and now im really thinking hard on how to innercool it. now i am influencing you to do the same thing. i know i have lead Dono a few times to empty his wallet. now we have john thinking about a 5L swap! LOL, never ending!
oh, btw. as for the drug thing. bad joke. more like heavy chain smoking. the swearing thing is dead on however. lol

time to ditch the M112 and go bigger Tim ;)

and NO andy! lol. i know what your thinking about. i wont say it, because i know sooner or later your going to do it. its not a "if it will happen" more like a "when will it happen"

Tim, couldn't you just make the intercooler the size that I have outlined? Then you wouldn't have issues with the bypass either. Even if it wasn't a perfect seal up top, I'd think most of the air would still go thru the intercooler. Perfection is always best, but I'm just thinking out loud.

And, yes, I blame the whole turbo thing on Tim. I'm hoping its a great success so he can take credit for prodding me in to doing it.

That does look like a nice intercooled setup, for sure. It would take some serious fabrication on the snout to make that work though.

The Mustang kits from KB for 302's didn't have an IC, and the 2.2 was the latest one before the 4.6 kits began and the blowers got really big(2.6-3.8+ liters).

I plan to mount the bare KB I have like that 94/95 kit, hopefully forward more, and route it up and over to an IC, above the lower intake. The blower itself is getting harder to find, since everyone keeps moving to really big sizes.

The Mustang guys took that KB outlet plenum/mount, and divided it internally, routing the boost to a front air to air IC up front, and then back to the KB outlet on the other side of the divider. We don't have space for those large tubes up front, so the air/water IC is best.

Dono, i was thinking of that as well, but like you said, im not sure how well it would work because it isnt going to be sealed all that well. we will see what johns opinion is.
and CDW6212R, so it would tick you off if i told you ahodges and myself saw one of those for sale at the parts swap at all ford nationals? i think the guy was asking something like 1,000-1500 for it.

No worries, they do pop up at times, you just have to be looking for them at the time. The Fox Mustang kits would do almost no good, only the blower would be useful if it was actually a 2.2(most were 1.5 or 1.7's). Only the 94/95 kits have any other parts which might be usable for the Explorer. There was a picture or two of a recently new member a while back, with the SN95 kit on it. He had bought it that way.

intercooler

there is around 3/4 of a inch on both front and rear of the opening dimensions that i posted.

So the inside length is 16 inches? Was 14.5 from each end of the outermost holes?
Do you have a bottom view picture of the supercharger attached to the plate?

the left side, and bottom left inside the case that is a "L" shape is where there is no room. after that, right bellow the rotors there is i will say on the safe side 3/4 of a inch before it will touch the bottom of the case. that is were the yellow line comes into play, that is 11 inches

From that, you can use an IC up to 3.5" by 16", less for the water outlet space needed. That's pretty good, the thickness is the tight part. You need a certain gap between the IC and the blower, and the same down to the intake.

I've asked what that space above and below the IC is in existing setups before. Those amounts I would suggest maintaining at the least. I was surprised at how little space some applications have for those, 1" to 1.5" is common.

You are getting close.;);)

side plates

Could you make the side plates 1/4 inch taller and still fit under the hood?
and do you have a picture looking down into the intake?

you mean this?

BTW, i know your next question. the opening there lengthwise is 14 1/2 inches
well, tomorrow the guy is suppose to weld it for me. we will see (i might back out of it. something about someone negotiating beer into the price is making me think twice now).
if i get it done, and my body lets me, what i want to do is take my m90 set up off, and put the m112, mount, and intake tube on to see how everything fits. that way i will know for sure if i can sneak it under the hood or not, and deal with any other issue i may have.

Height

Looks like the best solution would be the 1.25 height core. I was trying to go deeper but it wont work.
3.3 inches wide and 12 inches long. That's just the core.
In that picture, the last hole towards the back, what is the size between the hole and the back plate?
