1997 Ford Explorer XLT--Need Part F77Z3B676EA

I don't understand why 4 of the 12 parts of the column are discontinued and not the other 8!
They are all discontinued and de-listing just means that all the spares of that particular part are gone. I found the same thing rounding up parts for (at the time) 20+ year old Chev van. I could only get three of four door hinges.

Off topic but try finding a torsion bar for a 97-03 f150. Considered obsolete. nothing out there for a fix if one should break.

But the explorer t bars are not obsolete, still available for '95

Look at this thread, post 3615

Not obsolete because they were used till '11 in the Rangers, and there are tons of them on the road.

Yes, it will work. They just changed a sleeve in the u-joint from metal to rubber, everything else is the same.

I'm in the same boat as the original poster, except I have a '97 Explorer Sport, 4L OHV, 4x4, 5 speed manual. As far as I can tell, it's the same part number despite the difference in body, engine and transmission. Does the '97 XLT share the same lower steering shaft as the '97 Sport?

Can I too just replace it with the one you linked? -> 8L5Z-3B676-B 8L5Z3B676B - Ford Parts Giant

Same steering shaft until 2011 in the v6 rangers
Can find them in explorers 96-01, sports and sport tracs 01-05 and v6 rangers 98-2011

Thanks! So does that mean that I should be able to use part number 8L5Z-3B676-B in my 1997 exp sport?

Even though 8L5Z-3B676-B is listed as 20.2 inches long, and the original (F77Z-3B676-EA) is listed as 23.9 inches long?

Same frame / suspension, same steering column, same dash same rack and pinion same firewall and I’ve done it countless times
So yes it will work
These are telescoping steering shafts I’m not sure if the dimensions but it’s literally the same truck until 98-2011 v6 torsion bar ranger
95-01 explorer mountaineer
96-04 sport
01-05 sport trac
4wd ranger and Mazda b4000
All use same steering intermediate shaft
