2015 Explorer - Speculation / Fact

Did some more digging and it looks like the actual production of the 2015 will begin June 2. Orders will be accepted beginning March 15th with scheduling set to begin April 17th.

Final order date for the 2014 models is March 14th.
All dates are estimates and subject to change.

That's good information, thanks for posting. If they start building on June 2, presuming you put an early order in - e.g. March. When do you think one would get their 2015 Explorer - sometime in June? Also - based on these dates it would appear to me that by the time you know what the 2015 changes are, it will be too late to order a 2014 if that's what you choose to do. I imagine that's by design but wish I could find out a little earlier as I will order a 2014 if the options I want on the Sport don't appear in 2015.

New cars usually don't hit the lots until late Aug/Sept unless it's a new model mid- year release.

How about if you order one as soon as they are out?

I think if they begin building on June 2nd, that there is a good chance they may be delivered by the end of the month depending on the shipping process. Mine was built Feb. 24th and was at the dealership just outside of Ottawa on March 11th, 2011. A lot will also depend on the scheduling that Ford puts together. There will likely be dealer orders mixed in with customer/dealer orders. But there is a good chance that the earlier your dealer puts your order in the closer you will be to the front of the line.

Unless they've changed their process for this year, which I highly doubt. They are not "officially" out until late Aug/Sept. regardless of order date. They need to build their dealer stock before release. If you order after the "official" release date(late Aug/Sept. I think), such as PeterK9's example, then you will get that kind of turn around.

Hmmmm - that would be troublesome... If I sell my Touareg, I need something to pull my boat by early July... Crazy to me if one orders when the order bank opens up in March that it won't show up until end of summer.....

I should just sell the damn boat!

You've never noticed the new cars don't come out until fall?

Not always. The 2013 came out in the first quarter of 2012. The 2012 was a short model year.
Also, I don't think that the 2011 models hit the dealer lots until early 2011. I ordered mine Dec. 17th 2010 and there were no models to be found on dealer lots around here.

Yes, but it does vary but model and manufacturer - I have seen early summer releases....

Hmmmmmmm.. My sources are telling me that the 2013 started showing up the end of summer 2012. And 2011 was a complete redesign. 2015 is just a refresh and is on the "normal end of summer" schedule, according to my resources.

Your sources are wrong, my 2013 explorer has a build date of Feb 2012. So that means it probably made it to the dealership in late march depending on the exact date it was built. I know at my dealership we were getting shipments of 2013 in the spring.

There's no ordering guide up for the 2015 explorer yet, just for the transit and super duty, as soon as it pops up I'll post it for you guys.

Hmmmmmm. My sources suck.

I bought my 2013 Limited on June 28th of 2012. It was one of MANY 2013 Explorers they already had on the lot.

Where do you guys get your info? The internet? Ford? This picture was released back before the current explorer came out. Thank God they didn't go in this direction. It's hideous......

As I stated, this is a photo that some sites shown when you do a search for "2015 Explorer".
See posts 1 and 6. I began this thread just to get some responses and it looks like I succeeded.;) If you think the outside is bad, you should see the interior.

I've heard a 'facelift' for 2015 and redesign for 2016. I wonder if they will go with full LED headlamps on the 2015 Ex like they have on the F150.

Peter

I do t think they would do a redesign 1 year after a facelift. I believe Ford runs close to 7-8 year cycles. Usually a facelift after 3-4 years and that facelift will get them another 3-4 years.

Following their typical pattern ford doesn't usually refresh the explorer. They did new taillights on the 2nd gen in 99 and they do minor trim changes throughout the years but that's about it. I could be completely wrong but I would have to guess a new explorer in 2016/2017 and maybe add new wheels, colors and options until then.

Good to know, I haven't really followed Explorer patterns specifically.

I do have to throw something else out there though.. When was the last time Ford was selling 178,000 of these a year (12% increase over 2012). Regardless of BOF vs Unibody arguments, this Explorer is a winner for Ford, I wonder if they'd really change it up after 4-5 years when sales are not slowing down. Kind of like the super duty, it's been the same I think since 1999 (just a few exterior tweaks and a lot of interior changes). I know it's a completely different animal but still, I'm curious to see what happens.
