Well i got to talking to Nissanboy on here one night and was talking about wanting a tire carrier for his explorer and i told him i'd make him one. This is made from 1-1/4" sch 80 .191" wall pipe. We choose sch 80 over sch 40 because he wants to put a winch behind it one day, so we figured that the 80 would do the job nicely. He is also planning on a bigger tire then a 35" in the future so it's high enough to be out of the way of a winch. Here is the almost finished product:

This angle is wierd cause it's leaned back against my wheel.

Chad has a 3" body lift so he wanted this one set up higher then a normal bumper would be. This mounts should be plenty strong enough to handle a winch.

Things left to do are weld on a lever action latch which will be in on monday, add a gusset to the main swing arm to the hinge, and add some wheel studs.

So what do you think?

I think i cant wait for it to be on my truck. Josh has been most timely in building this for me and really worked with me on what i was wanting. I am extremely pleased with it. Ill post up some pics for him to show off after its mounted.

Thank ya sir.

When are you going to be in the mood to start a second run of your rear bumpers? I think that you have a new part time job blooming with every additional pic that gets posted. REally sweat bumper would be interested in talking to you about one

looks sick! i want to get front and rears but have no idea how to do it nor of anyone in my area that can. how long did it take and how much money was all the tubing?

Thanks for the compliments. I can make ya something if you want and ship it to you. I don't know how much i have in the pipe cause i bought a bunch in bulk to do my cage with.

I shipped the bumper to nissanboy yesterday and the tracking number says he'll have it tomorrow, so hopefully he can get it painted and mount so we can what it looks like.

Norad, i sent you a PM.

I am seriously debating going and picking it up in Greensboro about 30 mins from me. It got there about an hour ago. Shoudl be at my house tomorrow with plenty time to paint it and should be able to get it mounted either tomorrow night or first thing friday morning. Gotta go get my spare tire mounted on a decent looking rim first. No way am i having that rusty stock spare tire rim hanging off the back of my rig.

BTW dealing with Josh has been a pleasant experience.

other than me being extremely hard on the latch and breaking it already its very stout. But dear lord that tire is a PITA to get up there.

A 35" Bias Ply maxxis mudzilla on a steel wheel... i thought my intestines were gonna shoot out my butt hole when i lifted that thing up there.

looks really nice!

thanks... it will be seeing soem modification soon.

I hear ya, just geting my worn 32", is a pain to get on the back :(

it doesnt help much when that tire weighs in over 2/3's of my body wieght. Tire is about 110lbs im about 140lbs...

Chad can you post a pic of how it looks from the side, i'm curious to see how it looks on yours.

I guess i could... I'll take soem this weekend.

looks even better on! wow!

Ok I don't get it. You drive around on A/T's but have an extremely aggressive mud tire as a spare?

Chad,

It doesn't look as if the tailgate will clear the hinge pivot. Some side shots would be much appreciated. JoshC does nice work.

Thanks, Dave.

Yeah doesn't look like the hatch will be able to open with the tire carrier swung out. Don't forget to add some lights for the license plate.

Looks great...as others have said, does the rear hatch clear? Can you post a couple of side pics? Thanks.

Josh - how much?
