Well I stand behind my work, the reason I build trucks is it’s the only way to not get screwed by a shop

That is awesome and so few people do this these days.

I had 12,000 miles on the 318 Poly I had done by a reputable builder of Mopar Poly engines. He offerered stage 1 - 3 setups. I chose stage 3, the most radical.

When he assembled the engines he no longer did clay checks because he was always using the same parts, knew the deck height, etc. Well my build was the very first to use pistons from a different manufacturer and he didn't do the clay check. Every intake valve struck every piston right in the area where Eddie's piston lost a chunk. The builder came out to AZ in his Honda Civic. Shortblock went in the trunk, heads on the floor in the backseat. He redid the engine at no cost to me. I now have over 40,000 miles on the engine and it's still going strong.

:chug: to the honest builders.

The damage to the piston tops was not from detonation, but from the broken piece not only pounding on the cylinder with the broken piston, but also making it's way through the intake manifold and into cylinders on the same bank.

Mr. George, how much you pay for the new guy...
New guy is no good.. you pay too much...🤣🤣🤣

i would pay way too much for that any day! i miss my b2 otherwise known as the duce. 21-22 years old when i built it, and i hid it from my folks while i was doing it until it was finished.

i should have died more then once in that truck 🤣

So the block is all torn down and cleaned up no broken bolts in the timing cover nice!!
Rotating assembly, timing, cam and cam bearings all look stellar

Then I moved my attention to the new heads

IMG_3441.jpeg

Nasty broken lower intake bolt yuck
Spent a good amount of time on it
First tried grinder idea is to put a small notch in it so it can be rotated w flathead or drift
Head and stud torched
Area cleaned
Lots of pb blaster and my latest favorite trick I picked up from my stepson, is candle wax. We have had good luck with candle wax after heat and broken bolts threading out.

not today! Didn’t budge

So out comes the center punch and drills, start small work bigger. Careful to try and stay center

I broke a left hand drill bit in there, so I had to drill small holes around that and tap the broken piece out.
Finally I drilled all the way through working from the top and bottom

5/16-18 tap and threads require a 6.5mm drill bit. As soon as I got a 6mm through I was able to unscrew the rest

More heat, tapping, wax, blaster, drilling, repeat

Little bit of blood and some bad words
She’s out

Flat file the gasket surface, tap and clean the threads, finally moving forward…

Where's Cheeto? This project isn't complete without a new picture of her in your chair, supervising.

In Alex’s bed! Tight fit

Blood, sweat & a little cussin'...

Both heads stripped and cleaned fully, I chased all holes in both heads. Now to start putting the new 302 together!! I will be taking apart all 16 lifters to clean and test each one. I will also bench test all 8 injectors ……..again

Thanks for all the well wishes dudes, they are coming in from all over the world.
( shout out to my good friend Tomasz, he
Builds RBV in Poland, he says he’s the 410customs of Poland, I am honored!)

Seems like everyone saw me on the Grind Hard video hahahaha I have since gotten a haircut! Bwahahahaha

First place I plan to test drive this sucker is over to GHP I want to show those dudes the truck and Holley install… they are of course sponsored by Holley! Lucky!!! I told them we are not worthy, we still have to buy our stuff hahaha

When I built this truck years ago I did not know about remflex exhaust gaskets

Thanks to @Rick I learned about these and have been using them only ever since

I have tried all gaskets with the torque monster headers and they can be very difficult to seal. Not when you use remflex

So I have been using remflex part
Number 3028 for a couple of years now
Then I saw Tim @vroomzoomboom mention a 3003 part Number for our square port 302 gt40 heads and TMH

So I got a new set of Remflex, both 3028 and 3003, you are welcome lol

Let’s compare

The Mr gasket ones that were on the engine show many signs of leaking,
Typical with obx or tmh and your standard gasket
The header bolts were very tightened a few times after heat cycles, and the truck sounded good.., but still evidence of leaks

Both sets fit the head very well
The 3028 gaskets have a slightly smaller port which does “catch the edge” of the torque monster port. The 3003 port fits better, and still has enough material to seal.

Anyone want to buy a nib set of 3028? lol I will be using 3003 from now on… thanks Tim!!

You guys with race versions of the tmh (larger primaries),
Boost, or with aftermarket/ported heads will really benefit from the larger port holes

Which Grind hard video is that?

You have been under a rock I know this as fact

The video where I magically fixed their 7.3 limo!
Seriously magic

I've seen pictures of the Grind Hard limo, did you go get it with them? That is the only video that I'm aware of. Link?

Omg I was laughing so hard when I saw that I almost spit out my coffee

I was there in the morning and we stayed to watch the connex get dropped it was awesome

i have no idea where i heard of these (well, here on ef, but i dont know from who) and i will never use any other header gasket again. i have literally had a bolt go awall and never heard them leak. crank them once, run the motor a couple of times, go back and check the bolts and done. also use arp header bolts because they are so much better for space. most of the bolts you can get a socket on them to tighten them down ARP 400-1110 ARP Stainless Steel Header Bolts | Summit Racing

I am basically waiting on parts
Drivers head assembled
Melling timing set and more comp cam valve stem seals are on the way… I broke one during install… sheesh
Hurry up and wait

It's like dancing, one step forward, two steps back. The final result will be a masterpiece though.

This part that I missed must have happened this summer. I was deep in the Mountaineer 5.0 project and my forum time was spent mostly keeping that project updated. I try to follow your project, @97Sandbox and @Scotts96sploder to name a few.
That brings up a good point and a question. ~ 2 to 3 months ago, did anyone here notice that the notices that you get, you know, the red bell lights up then you can check out what you're following. My red bell either wouldn't light up or it would just flash for a second. I got to where I would click on notices anyway, whether it was lit up or not and some of my watched threads would be there but still no red bell.
Looking good, Jamie!

It was last month when I went to ghp silly
You were digging in the dirt working on water lines and service pits :) I don’t have a red bell on my forum but I did have to refresh the page to get my notifications to pop up

Okay now I see what you mean by red bell.. the number of messages you have waiting appears in red
