Yes, that is how I did it. It worked perfect, and was free. I have since upgraded to the multi-leaf 4-door springs and am now using 2" lowering blocks.

Have you noticed any difference in the ride or the handling since switching over to the multi-leaf set-up?

i did it on my sport and it made the ride stiffer, you can feel all the bumps just a bit more. but i like it because i have ot tow quite a bit, and the added stiffness is good for me.

Yes, I agree. It probably made it a little stiffer and caused the rear to be less prone to bottoming out (since I am lowered). The difference wasn't huge though in normal everyday driving. Once you start towing a heavy load or put some heavy cargo in the rear you will definitely notice a difference though. The multi-leafs have a higher capacity for sure.

I look at the mono leaf and I think what screwball at ford thought up this idea, I can see it on a passenger car, even then I would laugh, but on a 4000# SUV?
Sure it might have looked good on paper and sure it may have handled okay during testing and stuff, but WTF WERE THEY THINKING???

hahahaha

Its allright Ford does screwy stuff, but its nothing compared to what some other manufacturers do.....

My first car had mono-leaf springs, it was a '76 Nova. The back end sagged because of the mono-leafs. They ain't too good on cars either.

Update? I have been following this as I am currently contemplating this swap and keeping the turbo onboard.-j

Mannn, you freakin' rule for this one  I was hoping to be the first on the board to swap an 8 into a sport but I guess it's taken me too long, lol. I'm glad you did it first, though, 'cuz I have a jillion questions for you :D

*Did you use ALL of the Mounty's AC lines or just the ones that attach to the engine from the pump?

*Just use the engine harness or did ya have to use the main harness as well? (the one that's connected to the heater, battery, etc)

*The headers fit with no problem?

*You use the V8's fuse boxes too, I assume?

When you're making your big post, would you mind throwing in everything you had a problem with and how you fixed it? I'd really really really really appreciate it!!! I'm sure I'm going to have more problems with mine, since '99+ switched to a return-less fuel system whereas my '98 is return style :p:

Thank you for such an awesome thread, looks DAMN hawt!!!

Sorry I haven't posted the full thread yet guys. It is almost done. I just have been preoccupied with school and stuff.

Spas- I will make sure to address all your questions in my post. I am intending on making it a good post, so it will take a while, but I hope all you folks considering this "mod" think it's worth the wait. lol

so...ive been thinking about doing this for a while...but...it's my only vehicle for transportation...lol

Happy birthday Eric!
Yo--your pm box is full---

lol, thanks Jon. My elite privileges expired and my box was WAY full. I cleared it out now though. This write up is still on my to do list

Will any 5.0 work or only ones from an Explorer/Mountineer?

try searching for the answer to that question.

Into a 99 explorer, sport, or sport trac the easiest conversion would be a 5.0L drivetrain from a 99-2001
bolts in 100%
driveshaft for the rear will be shorter, other then that its a bolt in deal
the reason I say 99-2001 is the 99+ uses a return less style fuel system.

Hey 99, you still alive? No fantastically long and wonderful post on the things you had to modify to git 'er done?

okay thats great about the big update, but are you driving it? Does it have exhaust and turn signals?

I am so glad now that I decided not to paint my block(s)

NOT!!

Wish I woulda

Eric is driving it, he has been since Spring. He's as busy as most of us, I'm sure that he will post some details when he can.

Painting the block etc. is easy when it's out, cleaning it to paint is the hard part. I'm going to concentrate on the exterior brackets etc. with powder coating.

I just wanted to bump his thread in the hopes of a detailed post on his swap so I have some inspiration to get started on mine (and not screw it up too badly in the process, lol).
