I was wondering if my 95 Explorer Sport (ohv) with cold air kit, throttle body, exhaust, and chip. Will beat my friends New FX4 ranger.

I have 3.73's

He has 4.10's

I thought i would have a good chance

he will win..off the line esp. with those 4.10s and a much lighter truck.

He will waste you. I mean all you're gonna see is his tailights pulling away.

Come on! He won't beat me that bad! He may win but not by that much.

ohv vs sohc... not must of a contest to begin with.. sorry man

Hmm let's see.........

Tired OHV 4.0-Less than 160 HP, probably 120 at the wheels, 3.73 gears, 4 speed tranny.

New SOHC 4.0-210 HP, probably 170 at the wheels, 4.10 gears, 5 speed tranny.

Also the ranger is lighter.

I still think you will be wasted.

if you knew the answer, why did you ask? sounds like Aldive

well i say race him (not for money) and see what happens then post the results.

Jim.... I based my conclusion on what everone said here, i didn't know so i want to hear aeveryones opinion.

And yes i am going to eventually race him and we very well see what happens.

I hope when you do choose to race him, you do it at Milan and not on the street.

Who Cares! Winning is winning even by 1 inch, 1 foot, or 1 mile.

I didn't know that Explorers were know for speed anyway.

hey hey, I run 16.2 in the quarter on a stock 5.0 Mounty, thats quick enough for me to take two Durango R/T's at the track and a Civic Si the last time I was there.:p

Explorer and Speed = Troll:D

sort of..

Explorer + butt load of cash = Speed/Troll

Sorry Brad but he's gonna wax you. As long as he can hook-up off the line, you will not have the gain on him. Good luck though, and I agree to do it in the safest manner possible.

Not trying to be an @ass but why do you keep telling yourself it will even be close??

1. Engine
Yours(OHV) - 160 HP@4200 RPMS, 225 lbs/ft@2800 RPM
His(SOHC) - 205 HP@5250 RPMS, 245lbs/ft@3000 RPM

Remember those are at the crank/flywheel.
Also remember he can rev higher than you and has a wider powerband.

2. Weight
He has a GREAT advantage here, several hundred lbs.

3. Gearing
His 4.10s, if he can even hook up on take-off, will far out-accelerate yours.

All you will see is his tail lights geting further and further away from you.

Hey I'd like to join the fun! I think I can give the SOHC a run for his money...what do you all think my V-8 vs a ranger SOHC? :D

If your V8 runs like my co-worker's '98 V8 did when we took them to Firebird, the SOHC Ranger would probably edge you a bit. My co-worker's name was Kerry.
