some people here know, for the longest time i have wanted to put a 5.0L into evil. the only thing that is missing is a donor truck (i know such a small pesky thing :D). next week a 99 5L explorer is going up for auction at a insurance auction up here (truck is totaled from hail damage). in the last year and a half, i have only seen 1 other one, and didn't jump on it because it was a 00. i know a 98 has a return fuel system, and the 99 and up have a return-less system. what would all be involve on changing this to work. for what ever reason it is almost impossible to find any 5L explorers that i can use in my area. i don't want to go there, drop any cash on a truck that i cant use for this swap. anyone have any ideas?

Try KBB.com. A Ranger would be fun.

thanks but I'm not looking for the value, i want to know how i can over come the fuel system problem i will have.

The fuel system only goes as far as the in take. I'm a little confused. Is this about the electronic workings?

lines and electronics. my truck will have two lines. the 99 will only have one.

And the fpr is part of the in-tank pump/sending unit...Whichever fuel system the donor has the pump will run when the PCM triggers it...And since you will be using the donor PCM, the fuel system will be driven as needed...

If you do get the donor, I would just swap the tank, sending unit, wiring and harnesses over to the 98...You can remove the return line as it is not needed anymore...

As ridiculous as this may sound,
it might be easier to put the desired body onto the desired chassis in this case.

You will need to swap the fuel tank, hvap, fuel lines, engine, wire harnesses, PCM, gem module, pats and ignition switch, then work on the engine, transmission swap.

thanks guys, jon, i would but the donor is a 4 door, and evil is a sport. another reason why i want to do this. she will be even more unique with a 5L sport with true fire paint.

He's got a Sport though, so that won't quite work.

haha jon! this is the truck i want to bid on. its not till next week. not sure what it will go for either.

and now that i had a chance to look at it a little closer, its a 97  so life just got a little easier. with that said will i still have to change the tank? i wouldn't think so because it is the same fuel system. i do know i will be changing everything from the fire wall forward pretty much.
