I have read through infinite forums looking for help, and it seems like I'm running out of things to try. My 99 Explorer blows hot air from the AC when it's hot outside. I have checked pressure and both HI and Low are in the ballpark. I replaced the relay, the clutch cycling switch, and have cleaned out the condenser and radiator. I also topped off the engine coolant just to be sure. Last night I pulled the shim from the clutch, and am hoping that was the issue, but am not able to test it until later tonight. If that wasn't the problem, what do I check next?

It's only an issue when outside temp is 80+ degrees. Above 80, it works at first then blows hot air. Occasionally it will randomly kick in for a couple euphoric minutes before melting my face again.

Like I said, hopefully the shim pull fixes it. The air gap was way larger than it should have been, so it very well could have been the issue.

I'll test tonight and report back, but any guidance on what to do next would be appreciated.

Automatic A/C? It might be the sun load sensor.
