AWD Burn Out

FYI, the 28 ounce balancer isn't available for the Explorer 302. I'm hoping that a gentleman does call me back about building one, he sounded hopeful.

Robert, What might you shoot for as a pulley diameter(balancer)? The stock balancer is about 5.75" in size, and the Kenne Bell 2200 has a 13,000 rpm limit. I think that keeping it near 6.5" would not over run the accessories too much. Something larger like that does allow for larger blower pulleys. I figured that I would be hunting a 94/95 Mustang pulley near 6.5 to 7" in diameter. Thoughts,

Don, the name of the game with that KB is BELT WRAP. The more wrap and surface area you have on that upper pulley at a given boost the better. I would run an 8" or bigger lower crank pulley, custom if need be, and then just underdrive the accessories with a few custom pullies. Then run a 2.75" upper pulley on the KB and that will have you close. You may go a little above that 13k limit but these KB's get overspun all the time Go all 8 rib too, no 6 rib. Doing that is an investment, but it is well worth it when you see your boost gauge peg at 20 psi and barely fall throughout the entire rpm range.

If James sticks with his current setup, or similar to it then you two may come close in power. However, that is assuming he doesn't do what he and I talked about.

sounds like I need to give him a call- Last I heard he was upgrading his turbo.

What the machine shop told me is that u balance the rotation assembly to 28oz,and then machine the balancer so the weight is the same . And as far as the 675hp to the crank it happen, i know ur not going to get it off the line put down the 1/4 u will! think man!!!

I am planning for 8-ribbed pulleys, I have a rebuilt AC compressor with a turbo diesel clutch(8 rib). I was hoping to run at least 3" blower pulleys, larger for a 9/10psi start. I haven't started to look for other pulleys yet, the crank pulley should be the place to start. I have the phone number for Vortech, they should have something for a 94/95 Mustang.

True, the stock 302 crank can be balanced with a 28oz. balancer, but the crank trigger wheel is part of the stock 50oz. balancer. Thus, a custom part.

Hes maching the stock 50oz to 28oz as far i know ,if it dosent work then i will take a stock mustang balancer and put the trigger wheel ,of a steeda trigger wheel of a 4.6 in front of the mustang one and extend the crank sensor so it reads it can that work!!

I highly highly doubt that X you mention was even close to running 8's. It is possible to push an X that fast, but not on the power that the guy said he was running.

I went back and found that thread...I never saw that HP numbers were even talked about...I completely agree with 950, you will not take that X into the 8's or 7's like it was talked about in that thread... My friends 79 blowin Camaro has aprox. 800-900 to the wheels and at Bandimere (elevation 5200ft.) went 10.9-11.0 so at sea level about a ten sec flat car and I am sure that that thing weighs in just a little bit less then the X...But his boss/friend just got done building a (I want to say 32 but not sure) a 32 coupe, completely tubed, fiberglass, single sit interior, and been dyno'ed up to 1500 hp (needed a different dyno) and that thing has gone 7's the last I heard which was a while ago now...

My Explorer runs 8's......... in the 1/8 mile :) :hammer:

O ya, mine runs like 12's in the 1/8th damn 5200ft elevation, stock gears with 33's and like curb weight of 2 and 1/2 tons...

i'm pretty sure that the SS's came factory AWD, obviously not that fast though :D

Cubic inches rule!

I bet he isn't; is there a v8 going in there?

Damn those TT V12 explorers...:D Can't wiat to see what the plans are...

I HAVE A QUESTION :D, if I went from AWD 4404? to the 4406? 4x4 transfer case what do you think I will gain in MPH or E.T? On the G-tech if I remember right it was about low 13 at about 110 (107 at track probably) with a mid 4.5 0-60 and truck weighed 4400lbs itself with a 1/4 tank. I already blew up the trans and the only remaining part left to fiddle with is the AWD transfer case, has over 350,000 kms on it :)

HAS ANYONE DONE ANY TESTING before and after :monkey:

Well the 4406 is a lot stronger then the AWD case, but with the times that you posted (I am not sure what you have done to your explorer) but with those times posted and racing in 2wd you might get a bit of tire spin...The AWD drive case and the BG4406 in 2wd and 4hi both have a gear ratior of 1:1 so nothing will change gearing wise...

Oh yeah--Are you going to stroke that v6?

There are a couple of different ideas I am contemplating. This will be the ulitimate deciding factor in my final decision. Either way I go I will no hesitate to say that cubic inches will be in this trucks future. Oh and by the way, the turbo will be here to stay as well.

I'd build the bottom end of that 4.0 and crank it up to about 20psi if I were you :) This weak ass block is what is holding me back- I will attempt to stuff an LQ4 6.0 in here before I shell out $2000 for a bare block. I am just waiting for someone to try it before me so I can see how the oil pan will fit :) I am keeping my eyes open for a Mexican 302 block though.

I just wish I had the simple option of stuffing some good internals into my stock block like you do...
