Where did you get your air shock. from a shop or from the net.

Idealy, you'd like the shock as far "out" towards the wheel as possible to ensure the shock is most effective should one wheel take a bump - kinda like a lever. And what I mean by a wheel taking a bump is at normal driving speeds (say 40mph and above). For our type of off roading though, it matters somewhat but not too significantly because often the speeds are very low.

My air-shocks are from fullsizexjgear.com. You'll probably be communicating with Richard Burrow who's a great guy to work with.

Thanks i will be giving it a good look.
If you do decide on the Fox air shocks, make sure you get the 2.5's and not the 2.0's - the Explorer is a heavy vehicle and the 2.0's are not enough.

Main reason:
An air shock has a very strange spring rate curve. It is nothing like a normal coil spring. This weird curve is what makes it great for crawling over rocks as it allows the axle to flex more without having much twisting force on the chassis - whch helps prevent the vehicle from rolling over.

The downside is that, without an anti-sway bar, the vehicle becomes a boat on the road - swaying left and right on normal turns <-- which is fun :D and dangerous

Don't forget they have lots travel and ease of mounting like coil overs, but are much cheaper initially and easier/ cheaper to tune than coil overs.

even better lol

IZwack do u possibly have a part number on the ones u have used?

Bah just drive it like you stole it best way to find out all the problems.. A nice 40 minute drive will show you all the bugs.. :D If you break it, I have tow service..

LOL I know what the bugs are - a death shake at 40mph.

I have yet to do the alignment [procedures discussed earlier] so who knows, maybe once its aligned, it'll drive okay again.

Take the backgrounds.. If you know where 650 & 108 meet up, just take 108 into Ellicott city :D :D :D :D :D :D

I"ll try to look for a trailer -- I run the risk of being pulled over by being on public roads for that many miles. I just took care of a fix-it-ticket a few months ago :(

WHats illeagal on the vehicle...tires stick too far out?

That and bumper height are the biggest issues.

I've had those before.. They are sure fun.. There are benefits to having a friend who is a state trooper.. I just give him the repair order and have him sign off on it..
