Nice. I assume its powder.

Why blue?

:dunno: Just to be different I guess.

Yeah, it is all powder. I used chrome for the base, Mercury blue, and 10% gloss clear coat. I was trying for the new ford blue effect with what I had on hand, because the blue oval ford powder is very expensive, I would have had to spend at least 60.00 to get some here and also had to wait. I've already spent over 600.00 in new parts recently so I needed to cut somewhere.

That's an excellent approximation of the new Ford blue, well done.

BTW, has everyone left the little cable mounting ear on their upper intake, except me? I figured I would do without it and clean the intake up a bit.

It looks nice.

I still my black one with the polished plate...

Well, I ran into a little "issue" I hope can be resolved with some solder and tape.

My present engine has a low oil sensor in the oil pan, however the replacement engine does not. I do not need a low oil level indicator. I would really like to change the oil pump and pan gasket on "new" engine so it is ready to swap in, rather then have everyone wait on me to change out pans when the "old" engine is pulled.

Does anyone know how to cheat this?

I'd say do the oil pump for sure and get a new gasket, change the front and rear seals too of course.

Find another spare oil pan with the level sensor hole etc, and put that on, even if you just borrow it(trade your other one later). If nothing turns up by the swap day, it should only take 10-15 minutes to R&R the old pan, cleaning it would be half of it.

But Don, I want to powdercoat it. :D possibly tomorrow.

Timing cover gasket front and rear seals and timing chain are on the list to do.

For now I just want to bypass the low oil level indicator. I check my oil so often I do not need it.

Yeah, don't worry about the small amount of time it takes to swap pans out. Unless your wanting a clean coated pan, I wouldn't worry.

You answered as I was typing.

my opinion (then again, this is what kinda egged you on to change the motor in the first place) is not to worry about it. unless you have the message center in it, you wont need it. as long as the pan on the "new" motor isnt rusted or rotted, use it. besides, from what i have heard, the sensors start to leak/drip over time anyway.

That is my point. I do have the message center, and the stock engine in my truck has the sender.

I want to use an oil pan without sender, but I don't want to deal with a "low oil level" message after deleting the low oil sender.

So, my question remains. How can I deleted the sender from my harness? If the sender is in a "closed" state when oil level is good, then I could just splice the wires to the sender and there would be no low oil message.

That is what I am hoping for.
Does anyone know the answer to this?

I would hunt through the threads dealing with the message center swaps, the one I'd read was the Ranger with a blower, the EATC, console, message center, auto down and up windows, 302 and blower, seat heaters etc. I think his name was Bob, the member name I'm thinking of is rwnenz or similar. He had it on the Car Domain, and the RPS forum before here, years back.

hmmm. didnt know you had the message center, whoopsy!
well, i dont have the sensor in my pan (and i put a message center in my truck). the only time it will display anything is if i do a system check on it. i will dig up what i did.

Yeah, it'll be simple like disconnecting the one wire leading to the MC.

I'd leave it as it is with the old pan, and work on another engine later ... say from the parts list on the last page?

On my 302 / 5.0L, I drilled a hole in the new pan for the 4.0L low oil level sender. There is a flat spot on the pan, so locating the sensor was easy.

Bad news for me is the sender/wires are very close to the header. So far, nothing has melted and the sender is working fine.

You can pick up a new sender, drill your pan, PC your pan, mount the sender, and mount the oil pan all before swapping engines.

Also today I pulled the lower intake off Betty's bad engine, and cleaned it up. And of course I powdercoated it.

What is the blue heater hose piece called?

The one that came with my 5.0L was sketchy, and I did not use it. I used rubber hoses instead. I would like to replace the hoses with a new piece, but I have not found one yet.

Scott B. I think it is called a coolant crossover pipe.

Mine was pretty rusty but I think I brought it back, It was still solid after being blasted.

well i looked to see what i did to mine, and cant find anything on what i did (must have just left the wires alone because both the sohc motor that was in the truck, and the 5L thats in it now didnt have sensors in the pans).
btw, i like the way the lines came out. i may have to pull the ones on my spare motor and send them to you!....maybe..
