Black globe, Vacuum reservoir on v-6???

Has anyone with a 2wd SOHC actually located the globe?

I'm thinking all 97+ 2WD SOHC doesn't use the globe.

I did a keyword search in Alldata ( for my truck ) and found no referancve to a vacuum reserviour, however I did see that the blend door is operated via an electric motor and not vacuum. Could this be why I don't have a globe?

From Alldata:

Description and Operation

The A/C electric blend door actuator is located on the plenum assembly.

Its function is to move the air temperature blend door on command from the control assembly.
The A/C electric blend door actuator contains a reversible electric motor and a potentiometer. The potentiometer wiper is connected to the actuator output shaft and moves with the output shaft to indicate the position of the air temperature blend door.
A 5 volt signal is applied to the ends of the potentiometer. The voltage available at the wiper indicates the position of the potentiometer. The expressed value of the actuator wiper voltage is sent to the electronic automatic temperature control module and is matched with the wiper voltage of the module potentiometer. The control module then drives the actuator motor in whichever direction is necessary to make the actuator wiper voltage agree with the control module wiper voltage.

Don't remember seeing one in that location on mine either.

Do do believe everyone's blend door is electric. However the selector for the vent setting is run off of vacuum.

It would seem strange that Ford would use the globe on everything except for certain 2wd v-6 explorers. I know they have done stranger things in the past, though.

Al, you can check your passenger side fender liner near the front bumper, if there are two 10mm bolts up there, your globe is probably there. The bolts that hold the liner on are 8mm I think and have large washers.

I will try later today.

However, if there is such a globe, wouldn't Alldate mention it and show the service procedure?

I am confused ( as usual ).

The purpose of the globe is to maintain constant vacuum for the 4WD/AWD and operate the vent setting from my understanding. Maybe the 2WD has no need for a globe to maintain constant vacuum since there is no 4WD, only HVAC vent setting. Therefore, the vent vacuum line is tied directly into the vacuum tree.

Just a thought.

Interesting idea, but my 01 (AWD) has a live front end, a 2wd GEM in the dash. I hooked my globe up wrong after the lines broke and my HVAC didnt work properly.

^^^been there
I thought 95 was last year for vacuum hubs--???

Mine went to HVAC only

'96 was. '95 and '96s had this nice feature due to the 2WD option on the controltrac. Therefore it wouldn't matter 2WD/4WD/AWD. I'm curious to check mine again. Not that I have any problem with it. I just don't remember seeing it when I did the plugs/wires and wired my HIDs in.

Pictures of my globe bolts, these are taken from the passenger side fender liner front-

All right guys listen up
If you do find yours, please take it off and shake it.
Tell me if it has water in it.
Mine did--about half -three fourths cup
I shook it all out

i will check mine this afternoon.

how you get out the water?

how you get out the water?

I shook the water out-until none remained

My truck has never been near deep water--it was condensate I am sure

I do not have a globe.

Any SOHC folks find theirs? Please post a pic.

Thanks ....

Like everyone else mentioned, my 98 4x4 has it in the same place as everyone else: It bolts to the plastic fender liner inside the passenger wheel well....

Al, do you have those two bolts sticking through your passenger side wheel wheel liner?

If I understand the posting thread correctly, Al does not have the vacuum operated vent door behind the glove box like the SOHC 4X4. The blend door, as has been pointed out is electric.
Do you have the vacuum operated heater control valves?
