If you get some ranger U bolts and u bolt plates your problems will go away with those big ears sticking down. You can use the Ranger U bolts just like a real spring over truck, have the U bolts around the axle tube and the plate on top of the leafs...
If you do this then you would need a different size shock right? 4" would be too much. you may even need lowering shocks at that point since the shock mount would be above the leafs instead of under as in the stock configuration? Although it would be close to stock specs, depending on the shock mount I guess...

Shock mount tabs are not hard to fab up.
There are several options for shock location when it comes to the SOA conversion on an Explorer.
Whats wrong with where he has them? I know guys who run them like that and they work great!
You measure for shocks after you do the lift, by deciding on a location for the lower mount (hopefulyl somwhere that wont get hung up off road) measure at full droop and bump.

Now the mount location is important, but you have alot of options. Personally I am not afraid of welding a few readily available at any 4x4 shop, shock tabs on to the axle housing. I would try to avoid anything hanging down below the axle tube.

He can use the ears on the stock explorer spring pads if he wants, but I know I have been hung up on my shock mounts way too many times to go that route, even on mild trails.

Seat recliner levers were a BAD idea from Ford, even on a stock height truck they get caught on your pants :) I ditched mine YEARS ago, I cut the strap off an old duffle bag, sewed up some finger pull straps and used some bailing wire to attach it to where the lever once was, now you grab the strap and poull straight up, seat comes forward. Nothing to get hung up on. :)

Not sure on recall, they sent me it in the mail the other day.

With the above, the shocks would have to be shorter than stock . I tried that exact setup, put on the shocks and jumped on the bumper. I could make it bottom out fairly easily. Thats why i chose the way I did,

The way mine is set up I have stock length shocks and it moves just fine.

Here's how mine is mounted, as discussed above (I think). With this setup, there's only about 2 - 3" of uptravel before they bottom out. I plan on cutting the shock mounts off, flipping them over, and rewelding them. Sorry for the sheotty picture.

what exactly did you have to do to get that setup? i take it some welding was required? or is that off another vehicle?

When I get home ;)

Froader: Is that the superlift SOA kit that requires no welding?

Why does every post you make only apply to yourself? Do you have nothing to contribute to anyone else on the forum? Why not save the "updates" on your build for your own thread, not boomin's.

I noticed that too.

.

No they are not haha....

we are doing basically the same thing to a 2wheel drive truck...
that is why i said that...
since we are both doing that i kinda figured we both have some ideas for each other...
isn;t that what makes these boards what they are???
becase problems i had with my lift maybe i can tell him and he can do something to not have the same problems??

that is all i was saying when i put a post about my body lift in there...

I thought i was contributing to his thread because we are doing the same thing to 2wheel drives....I know if it was the otehr way i would want someone else to....
