CA - AZ "newbie run" Truck Haven Oct. 20

I'm about 85% in. I just have to work out one thing on the homefront. I'll definitely be in the newbie class. I'll be driving RitSui's (MY!) Explorer during the Newbie run. Uhm. I won't be the only newbie there, will I?

OK so is Ritsui gonna be there too or?????;)
<----- Noob here too have some off-road experience but it's pretty spotty.:salute:

RitSui will be there at the very least. We're having a logistical problem with one of our dogs so not sure if I will be able to come or not.

As long as I have the Goblin done I will be there and I might be bringing a friend of the famly too if he doesn't sell hiss J**P first. He is very experienced and has a '88 wrangler with a 6" pro comp and a 2" body lift with lockers front and rear. He is selling it by the way if anyone is interested. ;)

"newbie run"

Rick,

Hi. I am interested in attending. Do I need to officially "sign-up"?
I am familiar somewhat with the Ocotillo Wells/Borego Springs area from dirtbike/ATV riding and camping. Are there any maps of where the Truck Haven camp is located? Hope to see you there.

Thanks.

Michael

Michael,

Truck Haven is Just north of the S-22 off of the 86s. I don't think we have an official sign up for this run. Just pay attention to this thread for when we decide where we decide to camp and come on out.

Welcome to the site! :)

Normally, the majority of participants camp at our Truck Haven base camp. There are NO facilities available at Truck Haven. Camping is primitive with no water, toilets or showers available. If you have a porta potty bring it. A 5 gallon bucket with a plastic bag will work well :D

Bring everything you will need. Everyone is also requested to bring firewoodto add to our traditional BIG campfire. If you can't bring any don't worry about it, but the more we have the warmer we'll be.

Bring your own cooking supplies. If you don't have any you can probably share someone else's grill.

There is a small grocery store, a Mexican Restaurant, and a burger shop (Superburger) in Salton City. Both restaurants are very good.

There is gas in Salton City and also at a new truck stop just West of North Marina Drive.

Hotel Accommodations For Truck Haven 2007
Here is a list of hotels in Indio, Salton Sea and Borrego Springs.
Sandy and I stayed at the Dead Link Removed before and thought is was adequate and the price was reasonable. :)
If you want Class and you have the cash, the La Casa Del Zorro is the place to go.
Here is a site for Borrego Springs where you can also check out the prices and what the other places look like.
One other thing I'd like to mention is October thru June is the peak season around there and alot of "Snow Birds" frequent this area, so don't wait too long if you are looking for a room.

FROADER - Thanks for the info. I'll keep a look-out for additional posts to this thread. Looking forward to going and checking it out!

 :troops:

okie dokie, got the video equipment, new camera, laptop, and entire mobile audio video station ready to roll. all i need is a tent.

emmm ehem, nevermind. navajo is running really lean :(

Still might make this trip, but only if I can get back early from Sacramento on Friday. Just scheduled a week long trip to Death Valley for the week before Thanksgiving. Going with a bunch of old folks (parents and their friends) to see the sights. Bet I won't even get it in 4WD for the whole week unless I talk them into taking a few of the more difficult trails.

Might be going, I ll let you know.

yea

:exporange Will a bone stock ex make this run!!!!

2wd trucks are even going.........

where do you guys go closer to idaho
I'd keep an eye out for any northern CA runs. That would be much closer, unless you have a few days off work and can deal with the drive down here. :)
