Centrifugal or Roots...

Good luck on that new project, you'll get it going.

If the EGR issue does bother you, it might not be too hard to upgrade to the later PCM and external EGR. That would require the EGR pipe, and adding the fitting to the right exhaust manifold. I'd check to see how close the engine wiring harnesses are(96 versus 98), and hunt a late 97 PCM(with GT40P heads but no PATS). Of course a 98 computer can work by disabling the PATS too.

Don't get a kit from Snow Performance. Their pumps are notorious for crapping out. I had a friend whose pump crapped out twice in a one year period damn near costing him his engine twice because of it. I recommend a kit from a place like AIS (Alcohol Injection Systems). Their pumps are better quality, higher pressure for better atomization, and can take a higher alcohol content without crapping out.

Good luck with the project.

Wow talk about bad luck my buddy has the maf snow performance system And never had any problems

Yeah, I have seen some who have Snow kits with zero issues at all too. But when I was looking around for my meth kit for the G8 I noticed that there were more failure stories pertaining to the Snow kits than any other ones that currently come to mind. Their pumps seem to be just power quality than their competitors. You can't trust everything you read on the net, but in this case it was an overwhelming amount of data from various sources saying similar things. It's a judgment call.

Do you have an intercooler on youre kenne bell explorer?

Definitely, I am running 20 psi of boost. :D

Dam i wish i could run an intercooler, guess my only choice is to run meth when i stick on the larger blower, i knew i should have gone modular when i replaced the motor but noo i wanted to stay oldschool pushrod on this one cause all my other cars are modular.

If you are able to do custom fabrication then why not make your own AWIC? It's been a while since I have been under the hood of a 5.0 X but last I remember, you have TONS of room above the intake manifold before you contact hood. You should be able to hop on SVTP, Modularfords, or even Corral and pickup a Cobra or L used HE for less than $50 and a L intercooler pump goes for $85 on Summit brand new or you may be able to pick a used one up for cheaper. Then make the AWIC itself, plumb it, and wire the pump. Meth is great but I never really trust it as a replacement for an intercooler. But then again I am also somewhat conservative when it comes to safety of my engines. I love my modulars as well, but I have always had a soft spot for the old pushrods too.

The best idea I thought of was to use an intercooler mounted above a TFS "R" intake(done before, pictured). That seems like the easy part, finding room around that to mount the supercharger is harder.

I checked out the AIS kits. Really like that 3 Gallon trunk mount Stage 1 kit. The price seems pretty good too. But then again I think all the kits are overpriced.
So my decision on this kit rested on a couple things. Lack of space in the engine compartment and how loud this thing would be mounted in the back of my truck.
Also that 3 gallons vs 3/4 gallon resevoir is a big plus.
So how loud would these be? Or would the under hood kit be a better option?

I suppose which idea would work best and which ones wouldn't depend on what V8BOOST is starting off with in terms of an existing custom fabricated lower manifold design or if he will use the stock (or stock style) lower. I think that there is enough vertical room in the bay to allow it all to be stack mounted as long as the AWIC core is chosen with care. The issue with offset or side mounting the blower is then you have to design and fabricate a good way to support it which can add complexity that is best avoided if possible. I am curious to see what V8BOOST is starting off with.

I use the trunk mounted AIS system in my twin turbo G8 and I cannot recall hearing much noise. It only activates when you are wide open throttle anyways so it would be hard to hear the pump over the engine at that point. You can wire them up where they activate at a given boost level, MAFS signal driven, TPS driven and etc. I just control mine via boost pressure. Once I hit 5 psi of boost it closes the circuit in a hobbs pressure switch and activates the pump circuit which injects meth.

I thought hard about doing this. Decided the harness change was more then I felt comfortable attempting.

I believe your friend is the one that is trading his Eaton kit to me for my Powerdyne.
He has mentioned you.

Cheers,

Brett

get a nice air to air core on ebay and make the pipes your self. keep the centrifugal blower. there is nothing wrong with them, there is nothing wrong with a roots blower each has there pro's and con's... different strokes for different folkes.

So at the expense of starting another thread, this is what my latest plans are.
Firrst is to pull the upper intake off and replace the egr valve, egr valve position sensor and and egr position solenoid to hopefully get rid of my P0402 code that keeps popping up.
Second is to replace the leaky TMH gaskets, install a new driver side header, new plugs and wires and boot insulators. Also replace the upper intake manifold vacuum hoses and of course all new intake gaskets.
Third, intall the the Powerdyne centri supercharger while retaining for now the stock injectors ,maf and 6 lb pulley.
This should allow me for now to run my current tune (by Henson Performance) until I decide to take the leap to the bigger injectors, maf, 9lb pulley and water/injection sytem.
With all the gauges I will be running I should be able to keep a one good eye on how the engine is performing and if need be, adjust with my Livewire.
This will be done under the watchful eye of a very knowledgeable friend who works for food, so I cant complain.:)
Hopefully have this done by mid April when the weather gets better.
Everything is boxed up, with the exception of the gauges, and ready to go. My helper has a few projects going right now so I will do what I can until he is freed up.
Thats all I have for now.

Holy flipflops Batman! So you are back to wanting to use the Powerdyne now? Good luck with the project, whatever route you end up going.

What can I tell ya. My exchange deal fell through.:(

That sucks to hear. But either way you are still going to enjoy your X whether it is boosted by roots or centrifugal blower.

yea, but i would have bought it from you until you said you where going to chuck it up on ebay???
