I used about 14 cans of primer and i can clean it with engine degreaser.LOL

i wouldnt be able to do that though i would mess so much shi* up. i heard maaco or something had a 100 dollar paint job. is that true?

if you have a DA and you do it once over with 220 grit then drive it down to maco and have them tape it and spray one coat of the same color with iner coat clear it should be pritty cheep.

200 is my budget....

i think mud and primer deep tree gashes is the absolute cheepest.

Hahahahaha... you could go with primer, but primer doesn't protect against water very well, so it will rust... the only reason I know this is because I want to have a ratrod beetle one day... if you want to go with the flat/satin finish, use POR-15, although that likely won't come in under $200...

But, get a good paint job, fix the truck up, and keep it...

I rolled the paint on my CJ7 a year or so ago and I've had people ask me where I had the paint done. I used Rustoleum high gloss black and diluted it with 10% mineral spirits. I rolled it on with a 4" sponge roller and it turned out really good. A lot better than I had previous done with a rattle can on another Jeep.

Seriously? Applying it with a roller? My paint is in nearly mint condition, save for a couple small scratches (and a big one where the PO contacted the rear passenger wheelwell with a post or something) and I've got a couple spots on the hood where the paint appears to have "shrunk"... they're little round 1" spots where there's little tiny gaps between pieces of paint...

I'm considering doing a ghetto-fab two-tone or something... or just a big fat white racing stripe down the middle...

i hear ya on the flat blat, i painted 2 of my trucks that way, hides the rust good, lol

im tellin ya mud and primer deep gashes"tear graphics"

I used the Rustoleum paint that you can buy from HomeDepot by the quart/gallon to paint my Econoline van. The paint costs like ~$28 a gallon. I shot it with a very cheap spray gun but at very high pressure as (I guess) I did not thin the paint enough. Here's the outcome:

My friend had the compressor and the gun I used was an old one laying around -- so all I really needed to buy was the paint, thinner, and prep stuff like sandpaper and masking accessories. The entire van only took less than half a gallon to finish.

wow, from what i see that looks great.

Wow... that Econoline was sprayed by you? I saw the picture before I read the post, and I thought the reason you posted the pic was to show the truck you wanted to paint... I couldn't see why it would need a paint job though... then I read the post...

Looks awesome... my paint's pretty good, but I've got some scratches all over the body and chipping on the hood, plus a nasty scratch on the rear passenger wheelwell... I may well go pick up some of that paint and screw around with it... maybe try a two-tone or some graphics... <Shrugs>
